Amazing experience! Loved this hotel so much, we stayed there again two weeks later. Staff was friendly and accommodating and the grounds are gorgeous. Breakfast is tasty and the honesty bar is a clever touch.

Wow, this place is incredible. The hotel is charming, but a little tricky to get to. Make sure your taxi/uber knows the area. We had no trouble but the taxi ride up is a bit harrowing through narrow cobblestone “streets”. Perfect area to explore many monuments on foot. This is one of the best hotel/inn experiences I have had and feel lucky to have stayed here - it’s that special! Yes, there are really peacocks in the courtyard.

Very well situated hotel as it’s adjacent to the castle. Beautiful courtyard, great service and a delicious breakfast buffet with very fresh orange juice for the mimosas! Our room was clean and a good size for two. You will hear the peacocks at times, but not enough to disturb my sleep. We were even treated to a beautiful display as a peacock was preening just across the lane way as we left for a morning walk.

В отеле постарались сохранить интерьер старинного замка. Мебель, светильники, зеркала, всё напоминает об истории. В отреставрированном подвальном помещении расположен музей, где можно ознакомиться с историей этого здания. Очень доброжелательный и предупредительный персонал. При заезде в отель нам принесли на очень красивом подносе бутылку неплохого шампанского в ведёрке со льдом и орешки. Это было очень приятно и неожиданно. Прекрасный и разнообразный завтрак. В фойе отеля, в котором по утрам проходит завтрак, в течение всего дня можно выпить чай , кофе или соки. Свежие яблоки в отеле лежат везде и можно их совершенно спокойно брать и есть. В закрытом дворике с фонтаном стоят столики, можно выходить и завтракать там или пить кофе. Мы были в не очень тёплое время года, поэтому посидеть во дворике не получилось. И ещё в этом отеле есть свои павлины, их очень много, живут они рядом в вольере, отгороженном каменной стеной. Но прилетают во внутренний дворик и демонстрирую своё великолепное оперение. Рекомендую тем, кто не любит большого скопления людей и приезжает хорошо отдохнуть в спокойной обстановке.

Das Hotel ist sehr ruhig (wenn man vom Balzverhalten der Pfaue absieht, aber auch das war ok wenn man die schönen Vögel dann gesehen hat) und hat eine gute Lage. Frühstück war super und es gab alles was man für ein gutes Frühstück braucht. Schade war nur das wir ein Zimmer im etwas dunkleren schon fast ebenerdigen Bereich hatten und das das Bad so kalt war. Keine Heizung sondern nur eine Heizlampe.

D'excellentes prestations, tant au niveau de l'accueil, que de la propreté de la chambre, l'attention portée aux clients, la location (Superbe et très calme pour des nuits paisibles mais proche du centre historique), le petit déjeuner varié... Un merci particulier au personnel de l'intendance qui a fait preuve d'attention et de grande gentillesse. Nous recommandons fortement cet hôtel. A noter : une chambre un peu petite et une décoration particulière.

Gehobenes kleines Hotel. Sehr stil- und geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Ruhig (nur die Wände zu den anderen Zimmern sind etwas dünn). Romantisch und modern, ein Hideaway mitten in Lissabon. Einziger Nachteil ist sein großer Vorteil: Der Weg zum Hotel mit Auto und zu Fuß ist dank verkehrsberuhigter Zone, schmalen, steilen Straßen mit holprigen Pflaster sehr uhrig und ein wenig mühsam. Dennoch absolute Empfehlung.

Ein schönes Hotel in der Altstadt gleich neben der Burg .Wir schätzten es sehr bei offenem Fenster schlaffen zu können ohne dass Strassenlärm hinein dringt.Es ist dass ruhigste Hotel dass wir je hatten dazu sehr schöne Zimmer ,bequeme Betten ,sehr ,sehr sauber(für uns enorm wichtig)Das Bad ist etwas älter aber total ok und eben auch sauber.Die Wäsche wurde täglich gewechselt(für uns nicht täglich nötig).Das Personal ist sehr zuvorkommend ,diskret und hilfsbereit .Morgenbuffet lässt keine Wünsche offen.Tagsüber können sich die Gäste Tee und Kaffe selbst machen und Gebäck steht auch zu freien Verfügung .Der Hit ist der Garten ,es schaut alles so aus wie auf den Bildern , wunderschön ,riecht frisch und ist wahnsinnig schön anzusehen wenn abends die Kerzen brennen.Wenn wir wieder in Lissabon sind werden wir sicher dieses Hotel bevorzugen.

Hilfsbereite MitarbeiterInnen an der Rezeption helfen in allen Fragen (z.B. Ausdrucken von Boarding-Pässen). Sehr empfehlenswertes Hotel!

Wir waren für 4 Tage in Lissabon - eine kontrastreiche, lebhafte und schöne Stadt. Wir haben die Tage hier trotz Temperaturen von bis zu 41 Grad genossen. Dies lag auch an unserem tollen Hotel - direkt neben der Burg am Gipfel der Altstadt von Lissabon. Wenn wir wieder nach Lissabon reisen, wird dieses Hotel mit Sicherheit unsere 1.Adresse sein.

A boutique hotel within the castle walls! Having never been to Lisbon or Portugal mind you we were after a more ‘authentic’ experience and hotel to stay at. Sitting perfectly within the Sao Jorge Castle walls Solar Do Castelo is that hotel! It’s got a traditional feel to it beginning at the arrival where you see these two large blue doors that you enter through. The artwork, tiles, architecture and colour scheme that goes throughout is traditional and a beautiful nod to the past. We organised a transfer through the hotel for 50euro to make life easy, as it can be difficulty for any other type of transport to get to the front door. Taxi’s definitely seem to have the ability but anything else or even a rental car … no. As it’s located within the castle walls restrictions seem to apply. It’s a quick 2 / 3 minute walk to the Castle entrance, which is highly recommended to visit. It is also a 10 or so minute walk to the main shopping streets and town centre where you get say the hop-on hop-off bus or the famous Tram 28 which is the yellow historic trams that takes you on a 2 or so hour round trip of the city. This showcases traditional Lisbon and New Lisbon and well worth it! 20 or so minute walk will get you to Bairro Alto which is where you find amazing tiled places, old buildings and a sense of traditional Lisbon along with Alfama The location is perfect for this Hotel ☺ The staff are so friendly and more than happy to help with anything and everything. They organised a terrific surprise for my sister’s birthday and have given some excellent suggestions for places to eat and drink. It’s definitely worth engaging with them to enhance your experience. The breakfast and bar area is more than sufficient and offers great choice in a buffet style. Local Peacocks will generally join you in the outdoor area throughout parts of the day. They leave you alone but a stunning surprise none the less. They seem to drift across from the castle and offer a decent photo opp! If you want something boutique, traditional, not as fast paced and more personable then this is absolutely the place to stay! Very, very happy.

This hotel has an excellent location tucked right up by the wall of the Castle. Although the Castle, and Lisbon in general, is packed full of tourists, the hotel is down some tiny side streets and is incredibly peaceful - it's a little oasis in the middle of bustling tourist Lisbon. The rooms are very nice but what really stands out is a charming garden where you can sit for breakfast or an evening drink, or generally when tired of being a tourist. The staff are super-friendly and will happily drive you and your bags to the Uber pick up point. Which brings me on to one minor down-side of the location - it's behind a restricted traffic area and Ubers have to drop you about 5 minutes walk away - no big deal but you should be aware of this.

Il nostro soggiorno è durato solamente 3 notti, sufficienti però per poter esprimere il massimo della soddisfazione sia per il posto (incantevole, attiguo al giardino del castello) che per la struttura ed il personale ( attento disponibile e preparato). CONSIGLIATO !!!

Très bel hôtel mais attention dans un quartier fermé aux voitures dans le vieux Lisboa ( sauf résidents et certains taxis ). Donc accès impossible en voiture de loc ,stationnement "en bas " très difficile en places libres , les rues montent dur ! ( Attention aux sacs chargés ) Juste derrière le musée dans une ruelle en impasse. Evitez la CH 14 bruits de la cuisine à 4h du mat ! A part ça , testez à la boutique juste avant d'arriver , en montant , les beignets de morue au coeur de fromage coulant avec un verre de Porto ......vous oublierez la montée !

Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel was quiet and clean. And youll get your exercise getting up to the hotel from the city (even after taking the two public elevators)!I would definitely stay in this hotel again.

Ein top Hotel, in Herzen Lissabons. Wer es sich leisten möchte muss hier wohnen. Nicht nur der Portwein auf dem Zimmer auch das Ambiente direkt an der Burg castelo de sao jorge ist einmalig. Der Blick über die Stadt und die Fado Gesänge am Abend sind wild romantisch. Gut zu fuss sein ist allerdings von Nöten, dafür wird man im Hof von Pfauen begrüßt. Ich hab hier den besten Urlaub meines Lebens verbracht, mehrfach. Eine Anbindung an die kostenfreie Bahn ist gegeben.

It was the former kitchen area of the castle. It was way up the hills, which made it super-hard to walk to, but it was in a cozy neighborhood and it immersed us in Portugal. The property was beautiful, from the overflowing candles to the eat-in area where you could have tea, coffee, fruit, and cake at any time, to the tiny museum down below, and finally, to the peacocks roaming the quaint courtyard. The concierge was so helpful and kind. He seemed to really be proud of and love his job and his country. The room was large and air conditioned, pretty and comfortable. Highly recommend!

We stayed for two nights during our honeymoon and were very happy here! The location is just perfect- there is only one wall separating you from the castle. The service was wonderful - the recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing were spot on and the welcome was very friendly. The rooms are cosy and the general atmosphere of the hotel is homely. There are a lot of interesting historical findings to be made- such as the hotel museum and the history of the premises.

Lovely hotel with friendly, helpful staff who really make their guests feel special. Lots of ‘extras’ such as a decanter of port in the room, tea, coffee and cake available 24 hours and a kettle in our room.

Staff, and breakfast was great. Only challenge is getting taxis or Uber’s to pick you up or drop you off close so you may need to walk up/down the hill a bit.

Over the past 20 years I have stayed in Europe over 600 days and this hotel would be on the top of the list. Only issue I do have is that it didn’t have its own restaurant because I believe it would be one of the best in Lisbon.

This property is an absolute gem in Alfama. When searching for a hotel I wanted something with character that displayed the rich history and beauty of Portugal while also being modern enough to appease my husband. This hotel fit the bill perfectly. The one thing that surprised me the most, was how quiet and tranquil this hotel is. Its in the perfect location, next to the castle, which is busy during the day but very quiet in the evening and away from any traffic.

Solar do Castelo is more of an inn than a hotel. It is beautifully and tastefully decorated and restored. It is not a full-service hotel - only 20 rooms. Our room was small and quite cramped but others are larger and nicer. The breakfast is basic but wholesome and good quality. The hotel is quite expensive for what it is. Well-located, however. Note that taxis and Ubers have to pick you up about ten minutes' walk from the hotel.

This hotel is tucked in a very busy spot that is the result of it being situated right next to a Castle that all tourists frequent. Nevertheless, the hotel has a nice courtyard that could be accentuated either for a drink or at breakfast. The room was clean and the bed correct. Altogether, this hotel could inject more of a creative edge with the unique space it occupies.

Charming hotel within the castle walls in a great area. Peacocks added another delightful dimension despite their squawking. Room was very comfortable and clean, with a complementary bottle of Port and two glasses. Staff was exceptional, friendly, English-speaking, helpful.

Beautiful bespoke Inn nestled up against the great castle of Lisbon, the Sao Jorge. We had a view directly onto the castle keep from a cosy beautifully appointed room. Getting to the inn was a late night adventure in itself. If you can, print out a map of the directions before going.

L'Alfama est le point de départ de beaucoup de ballades intéressantes et un des quartiers le plus charmant de Lisbonne.Il faut de bonnes jambes en revanche,car l'hôtel est sur un point culminant, mais accessible aussi en bus et en taxi.

Два раза останавливался в этом прекрасном маленьком отеле на вершине холма.Здание было построено в 18 веке и служило кухнями королевского дворца Алковас.Прекрасная реставрация сохранила многие элементы классического декора.Учтивый персонал,отличные номера с деревянными балками на потолке и красивым видом,очаровательное патио для завтрака с гуляющими павлинами из соседней крепости Св.Георгия.Вниз можно сьехать на отельном багги.Рекомендую всем любителям португальской истории.Бронируйте заранее лучшие номера-отель маленький.

We stayed here for a night just before Christmas 2017. Reasonably priced hotel in the castle walls which has ben tastefully refurbished to a very high standard. Staff were lovely and the breakfast was great. Highly recommend this hotel!

We had a truly wonderful stay at the historic Solar do Castelo for our recent honeymoon. Nothing was overlooked: the room they upgraded us to at the very top of the hotel boasted beautiful views of the castle and the bay, the breakfast offered great variety and was set in the stunning secluded courtyard, and the staff were helpful, friendly and professional. There were candles lighting all through he hotel in the evenings, and the outdoor fire pit and blankets were so romantic. We cannot thank the staff enough for making our honeymoon so special.

Beautiful setting, welcoming service and good rooms. Beds are good, Molton Brown shampoo and shower gel. The courtyard is an oasis where you can relax and enjoy a coffee/tea after a stressful day in the streets of Lisbon.

A perfect place to begin and end your daily exploration in Lisbon. The hotel is conveniently located by one of the key attractions. It is located in an area that doesnt get a ton of late night foot traffic, so you can get a good night sleep in the very comfortable rooms. You can also conveniently get to most of the major attractions within a 10 - 20 minute walk.

A very special small hotel located within the walls of the Castelo. Very professional and helpful staff, good breakfast. An elegant retreat after long days exploring Lisbon. The peacocks in the Castelo can be annoying. It is a steep climb to get there but taxi (cheap in Lisbon) can deliver you to the door.

Traumhafte Lage über den Dächern von Lissabon, eingebunden in die Anlage des Castelo mit Aussicht auf den Tejo. Sehr angenehme Ambiance mit Innenhof und Brunnen. Mitten in der Stadt, wenige Gehminuten vom pulsierenden Leben der Alfama und Baixa entfernt - trotzdem absolute Ruhe in der Nacht. Sehr freundliches und zuvorkommendes Personal. Frühstücksbuffet lässt keine Wünsche offen.

Da das Hotel praktisch zur Burg Sao Jorge gehört, ist es in den verwinkelten Gassen der Altstadt zunächst nicht ganz einfach aufzufinden. Die Lage ist aber herrlich von den oberen Zimmern hat man eine traumhafte Aussicht auf die Stadt und das Meer. Das Hotel selbst ist klein, aber sehr fein mit viel Liebe zum historischen Detail. Service, Zimmer und Frühstück waren sehr gut. Auf jeden Fall zu empfehlen!

Magnifique petit hotel accroche au sommet de Lisbonne, contre le chateau St Georges! Cetaient les cuisines du chateau qui ont ete transformees avec beaucoup de gout! On peut y admirer les objets de differentes époques que les archeologues y ont decouverts! Paix, confort , accueil chaleureux et efficace. On ne peut que recommander ce lieu qui nous a fait du bien

I look forward to returning to this hotel with my wife. The location is great with an old world feel (with all the modern amenities). The renovation to the property is stunning. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly and everyone speaks perfect English - which helps me as I dont speak Portuguese. I will certainly return. 25-30 min from the airport.

Dieses Hotel ist wunderschön gelegen, gleich beim Castello.Das Frühstück ist reichlich. Das Personal sehr freundlich.Die Zimmer sind zweckmässig und sauber. Sollten wir wieder mal nach Lissabon fahren, dann steigen wir bestimmt wieder hier ab.

Nestled in the castle walls, this hotel was an ideal base for a city break in Lisbon - you are sight seeing from the moment you wake up! All the staff were extremely helpful (24 hour room service), and those on reception spoke fluent French, Spanish and English as well as Portugese.Nicely furnished, spacious communal area for breakfast, and general relaxing - with tea, coffee, water and biscuits freely available throughout the day, and an honesty bar for soft and alcholic drinks. The courtyard provided an ideal spot for eating breakfast outside on an autumn morning. Breakfasts were Euro 15, but set you up for the day - help yourself to cheeses, cold & cured meats, bread selection, cooked breakfast, cereals, fruit, yogurts, tea, coffee, juices and even champagne.Our double room on the ground floor was very small, but comfortable and well equipped. It looked directly onto the narrow street by the castle - too narrow for traffic noise to be any bother to us. On one night some locals chatted by our window until about 11.00pm but were not rowdy and it is their city! A complimentary decanter of port was a welcome addition. Our aircon/heating stopped working while we were there, and we were immediately given a substitute room heater, without any delay. Everything else worked perfectly.

The location was a bit of a challenge by rent-a-car, but was worth the extra effort. The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and unique. The staff was always ready to assist and very friendly, and any history buff will find the atmosphere irresistible. Would book this place again in a heartbeat!

Habe noch nie so freundliches und Hilfsbereites Personal erlebt!Ambiente und Umgebung, gleich an die Burgangebaut. 10 Min. vom Zentrum entfernt. Halt etwas erhöht aber in einen typisch lissaboner Quartier. Also ich buche das nächste mal wieder dieses Hotel!

En upplevelse utöver det vanliga. Ett hotell som har allt, lugn, fantastisk miljö, utmärkt personal och undrar man något är de bara att fråga.

Lissabon en härlig stad, att bo mitt i stan högst upp i Alfama vid borgen i detta fina hotell var höjdpunkten.

A fab little hotel right up the hill overlooking Lisbon. The hotel itself is gorgeous, stone walls and an abundance of character. Rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean, with near silent aircon! Fab little courtyard for breakfast and just lazing around in the sun watching the birds flutter around the fountain.Surrounding cobbled streets are all very narrow so many taxi drivers reluctant to go to the hotel door. Do not attempt to drive a rental vehicle, youll damage it for sure.Plenty of bars and eateries close by, walk to the coast is approx. 1.5 miles: 20 mins all downhill, which means uphill on return, and that means lots and lots of steps! Castel S Jorge is literally on the doorstep, great to sit within the walls and watch the sun go down.

Très bien placé dans le quartier historique de Lisbonne.Le personnel était très sympathique (parle français). La chambre avait tout le confort nécessaire

Lissabon är en härlig stad, att besöka. Jag tror, att man bor bäst i Alfama nära borgen Castelo. Solar do Castelo är antagligen ett av de bästa ställena att bo på. Härifrån når man med buss och spårvagn resten av staden. Mycket sevärt: De kungliga sommarstugorna i Sintra, alvariet Oceanario med omkringliggande område och Belem med Sjöfararmonumentet, Torre de Belem, Jeronimoklostret, krigsoffersmonumentet och Tropiska Botaniska Trädgården.Kommunikationerna fungerar bra. Metron är numera förlängd ut till flygplatsen Portela.Lätt och billigt stt, att ta sig till Sintra är med tåg från Rossios tågstation.Det är dyrt att äta ute iLissabon och ännu värre i Sintra.Kreditkort fungerar inte i Lissabon. Ta med dig riktiga pengar.

Great hotel in Lisbon next to Castelo de São Jorge. Beautiful old building, nice courtyard. The building is old but the rooms are very nice with modern decor. Service is excellent.

Lite svårt att hitta till men underbar tystnad pga läget. Ända nära till centrum både buss och spårvagn går hit. Bebyggelsen var vacker och mycket att titta på.

Tillbringade 4 nätter på Solar do Castelo och är jättenöjd. Personalen är trevlig och hjälpsam. Det är rent och fint.Frukosten var utmärkt!Läget i den gamla charmiga delen av Lissabon och i direkt anslutning till Castelo de São Jorge är perfekt.Kan varmt rekommenderas!

Es war ein wunderschöner Aufenthalt in Lissabon. Wir haben uns im Hotel Solar do Castelo sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Zimmer war für 2 Personen gross genug, TV funktionierte - leider nur mit einem deutschsprachigen Sender (RTL) - und der kleine Austritt gab den Blick auf den Tejo frei. Die Lage des Hotels (direkt neben dem Castell), die Sauberkeit (u.a. jeden Tag frische Handtücher), die Freundlichkeit des Personals und der Service waren perfekt. Das Frühstücksbufett war hervorragend (leider war die gut gekühlte Sektflasche nie geöffnet, so dass keiner der Gäste sich traute, einen Schluck zu nehmen ...). Allerdings war der Gesamteindruck nur gut - die Optik des Neubaus passt nicht zur historischen Fassade: diese müsste dringend insgesamt von Moos bzw. Algenbefall befreit werden und die Hellhörigkeit der Zimmer in Bezug auf Wasser- und andere Geräusche war störend und begründen den kleinen Punktabzug. Fazit: Sollten wir wieder einmal nach Lissabon fahren, werden wir gern wieder im Solar do Castelo übernachten.

Parfaitement bien situé, hôtel de charme, réservant de bonnes surprises : accueil chaleureux et de bons conseils, propreté irréprochable, jolie décoration de la chambre de grande taille. Bref, nous y retournerons avec plaisir et que personne nhésite à sy rendre.

Das Solar do Castelo liegt eindrucksvoll und ruhig auf dem Burgberg, hat schöne Zimmer und einen besonderes schönen Innenhof, ist allerdings nicht ganz zentral gelegen und nur durch einen Aufstieg zu erreichen, wenn man nicht den Bus nimmt, der immerhin bis zur Burg fährt.

Unikt och mycket trivsamt inrett hotell samtidigt som det hade en lite lyxig känsla. Hjälpsam och trevlig personal med goda språkkunskaper. Fräsch och god frukostbuffé. Lyhört. Men bortsett från påfåglarnas skrik emellanåt så ligger hotellet i en tyst del högst uppe på kullen vid slottet. Tungt att promenera upp i 35 graders värme... Inget för handikappade. Hörde att vissa taxibilar inte vill köra ända fram till hotellet eftersom det är mycket trångt i gränderna, brant och ojämn stenbeläggning. Vi blev imponerade av dom som faktiskt körde dit. Men helt fantastiskt att bo på ett hotell mitt inne i en så gammal och unik stadsdel vägg-i-vägg med både äldre och yngre boende i gränderna.

Do not stay here. You will not sleep. Apparently the next door castle bought peacocks for the castle grounds (which overlook the hotel) two years ago. The loud, raucous braying of these birds constantly throughout the night makes sleeping almost impossible. A miserable experience!

Underbart litet hotell alldeles intill borgen i Lisabonn. Trevlig och hjälpsam personal. På rummet finns tofflor, morgonrock, hårtork, saftybox, tv, dvd-spelare, telefon och trådlöst internet. Ingen minibar på rummet men det är bara att gå ner till sällskapsrummets bar och hälla upp, du skriver själv upp vad du tar och betalar vid utcheckning. Orkar du inte hämta är det bara att ringa 24h roomservice. Charmig och lugn omgivning med nattro. Omgivningens backar och kullersten gör det dock mindre lämpligt för folk med rörelshinder.Rekommenderas varmt.

The Solar Do Castelo stay was most comfortable and enjoyable. From the unique setting and building to the excellent attention by staff, this is one of the more complete and unique hotel stays I have ever had. I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone, and I hope I get the chance to stay there again.
