This is a first class equestrian resort! We were there May 2018 nice weather the flowers were in full bloom, very comfortable accommodations, fabulous fully trained in dressage horses, great trainers and very beautiful surroundings what else would you want? We would definitely go again! Love it!

After traveling the world for over 30 years, this is by far my top five places I’ve visited. First of all, the management and staff are not only friendly but extremely responsive, efficient, flexible and accommodating to any need. We were treated like royalty and the riding instruction was top notch. The horses are in perfect health, happy and well-cared for. The horses were well trained and incredibly patient with their riders. The resort is brilliantly designed—complementing and enhancing the beauty of the historic structures and the natural, geographic surroundings. This place is like walking into the pages of Architectural Digest. We had a trail ride and at least one dressage training lesson a day. I’m active so I liked to run on their trails and practice my yoga on the pool deck. We also had access to a canoe on the small lake situated in the brood mare pasture. All the horses were gentle, friendly and loved being around us. The food was buffet style—fresh salad, charcuterie, freshly baked breads, a variety of local Portuguese meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes. Wine, coffees and teas. There’s a beautifully decorated indoor and outdoor lounge area for after riding and relaxation. It also has a fully equipped kitchen with snacks, wine, spirits and beer. The hot tub and pool look out to a panoramic view of the hills and cork trees. I’m definitely coming back to this amazing place. The natural surroundings, premium service, food, exquisite horses and warm climate are the right combination for rejuvenating the human spirit.

This family-owned and run property shows how this wonderful family took a raw canvas 25 years ago and have painted a masterpiece of a property and resort for lovers of dressage and the Lusitano horse. We were attracted to the combination of old world feel and modern accommodations when we first researched the property. The Owner is an architect who has seamlessly blended the transformation of the ruined farmhouse they started with and the modern pods that house the bedrooms. One of the first things you come across when entering the property is the brilliant views in all directions. As you drive up to the parking area you are surrounded by dressage arenas and stables housing some magnificent horses. Further views of the surrounding fields yielding an array of pregnant mares. In fact, one night after arrival we were blessed with the site of a foul who they day before we walked among its pregnant mother. The experience of standing amongst this newborn, its mother and the other one and two-year-old Lusitanos was one of the highlights of the visit. We checked into our spacious and modern room with a sweeping view off the balcony. The dining room was a warm, and welcoming room where we dined three times a day on some great food surrounded by other wonderful guests. The conversations almost always revolved around each person's dressage lessons that day or their trail ride around the property. Adjacent to one of the room pods and across from the dining room is a common space in the form of a very comfortable and spacious living room with an honesty bar that is available to guests 24hrs. From the sliding doors of the common living room, you step out onto patios which look out to the swimming pool and acres of stunning scenery laced with the famous Portuguese cork tree and a small lake where you can take out a canoe. Also in that area is the gym, sauna, and massage room. The staff is all exceptional from the kitchen staff who greet you and cater to your appetite to the riding staff who work with you to better your dressage level. We can attest to the fact that after a week we left far better riders than when we arrived. The property is also a breeding facility where currently one of Portugal's entry into the upcoming summer Olympics in Tokyo and his stunning stead are training. One suggestion I would make to future guests is this. If you are a fairly new rider or you want the full attention of the instructors during your lesson, make sure you book the lessons in that manner. Otherwise, you may find that you will have one instructor to two people and they have to balance the time of the lesson between the two. Other than that, it was a great week and we hope to be back in the future. You won't be disappointed at Monte-Velho whether you are a rider not.

Beautiful place, amazing view, extremely comfortable, the staff is very friendly and the horses are just the best!

This is a wonderful place. The horses are well kept, trained at high level, willing, sensitive and rather forward than lazy. There are a number of very good instructors. The trail rides are fun as well. The setting is fabulous with beautiful views and the rooms are of modern simplistic luxury. The owner family is extremely nice, approachable and very interesting to talk to. All in all, this week was far beond my expectations.

Ich war 7 Tage in Monte Velho und es ist ein einzigartiger Ort bezueglich Entspannung, Stille, Natur. Ich war in einem normalen Zimmer mit kl. Terasse und Blick auf die Paddocks/Weiden mit Stuten und Fohlen. Ich hatte 5 x Reitunterricht und einen Ausritt. Der Ausritt war sehr schoen. Ausserdem hatte ich Vollpension und die Mahlzeiten waren sehr gut, immer viel Gemuese und Obst, Fisch und Nachtisch. Ganz hervorragend, frisch gekocht und zu Mittag und Abendessen immer die Moeglichkeit Wein, Wasser und Kaffee oder Tees zu nehmen. Die Reitanlage verfuegt ueber 2 Reitplaetze mit Dach und einem freien Platz, alles in sehr gutem Zustand und sehr gepflegt. es gibt verschiedene Reitlehrer und Schulpferde. Hier ist das einzige was mir nicht so gefallen hat. Die Pferde welche ich zur Verfuegung hatte waren nicht einfach zu reiten. Ich bin mit der Idee gekommen Lektionen zu lernen wie fliegende Wechsel und Traversalen. Bin aber ueber Schritt, Trab Galopp nicht hinausgekommen. Allerdings wurde mir auch gesagt, das recht viele Pferde in einer Rehabilitation sind und daher nicht die zur Verfuegung gestellt werden konnten welche normalerweise da sind. Die Reitlehrer welche ich hatte waren alle sehr gut geschult und sehr konzentriert und freundlich. Insgesamt alle Personen die zum Betrieb gehoeren waren sehr freundlich und immer bemueht alles moeglich zu machen. Insgesamt wuerde ich das Resort weiterempfehlen und auch gerne wiederkehren. Es gibt ein kleines Schwimmbecken zum Abkuehlen und Jacuzzi undsogar einen kleinen Fitnessraum, super zum Entspannen und Verwoehnen! Jederzeit wieder :)

Ideal para uns dias de relaxe

Muito bom e muito bonito. Único senão: horário das refeições. Para o acesso, se tiverem opção jipe, será bem mais adequado.

No Monte Velho tudo é detalhe. Desde a organização hoteleira até ao próprio Equo-Resort, é muito dificil encontrar mais sofisticado. Exprimentem (de preferência se gostarem de cavalos) e tirem as vossas conclusões. Campeões no sector, na minha muito modesta opinião. Ass: " o menino Joaquim"

One of the most special boutique hotels I've ever been. Charming place, hosted by Diego and his family. Perfect place to be surrounded by horses, nature and exquisite design.

Amazon horses, fabulous food and dedicated instructors, all in a breathtaking environment. Can't wait to return!
