Great hostel with tons of character and a 2 minute walk away from the beach. The owner, Diogo is incredibly hospitable and makes sure you are comfortable. You will feel like part of the family. We will definitely be back.

It was a nice experience at 18 St. Hostel. It is a great place to meet locals. The hostel is clean, quiet and offers a lot of space and tools. Bikes can be stored secure. Diego, who runs the hostel, is a kind storyteller.

Since we have been on INTERRAIL for about 2 weeks we expected just another hosel in another city like all the other ones before. But already our Arrival at the train station showed us otherwise. Diogo, the owner of 18th hostel, picked us up from the station (who in the world met a hostel owner who does that before??!!) and showed us around the city to his cute, super pretty house, the hostel. It's right next to the main mall and like a 3 min walk away from the ocean. super central but calm. The house is beautiful. There is a kitchen everyone can use, a breakfast room (coffee and müesli are amaaazing), a chill area and a terrace - perfect to spend nights talking and laughing with Diogo or the guests. Every room is renovated and decorated in its own color and style, super modern and artsy. You feel that Diogo put a lot of thoughts in the construction of the rooms. Right after our arrival, we met some of the other guests. Everyone super friendly, open and talkative. Not like other hostels where everyone ignores each other. Special about this hostel: there's room for just about 20 people and most of the time it's not fully booked since Diogo wants to remember every single guest and it's story, as he told us. He wants to have a relationship to them not just business. You can truly feel that. Diogo is so interested and funny! Always up to tell you another story of his life. Always up to help you out of any travel struggles/ situation or to design a plan of the day for you. He's trying to make you feel comfortable as possible. Everyone is welcome, everyone's treated like a friend. Of course, we also met Big Mama, Diogos mother. One day she took us and another family to Porto and showed us around. We still really appreciate this gesture. It was really interesting since she was a history teacher and knows a lot about the city. Well, we could keep talking about our stay and all the people we met in 18th hostel and Espinho. About our days, nights and conversations those days but that would just take forever. The days we spend at 18th hostel were for sure the highlight of our trip and all in all the BEST HOSTEL we stayed at. !!!!It's a top surf spot, a calm little beach town near to the city Porto where you can party and shop and explore during the day in case you don't wanna hang out at the beach or with the guest all day anyways. We personally can't wait to come back here at our next journey to Portugal and recommend it to everyone who's open for some chill and inspiring days.

It was the best stay in a hostel on our trip! Diogo is super cool and take care that you know, see and taste everything what is reachable. Everytime again when we are back in Portugal. Thank You crazy man ;)

This is not a "normal" hostel, but a second home! The owner Diogo is warm, welcoming, super helpful and taking care like a friend. He loves his hostel and you can feel that! And then there is his "Big Mama" – extraordinaire! ;) It is perfectly located (in the middle of the city centre, but still VERY close to the beach), super clean and equipped with everything you need (like a kitchen and a garden). From Espinho it is easy and fast to go to many cities like Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, etc. I loved staying at 18th street hostel – thank you so much, Diogo and Big Mama!!!!

Not a typical hostel experience... Diogo makes you feel like you're staying at a great buddy's house. He went out of his way to give local recommendations for food/things to do, made sure I was comfortable during my stay, and patiently sat down with me to help plan out local beaches to hit up while I was traveling down the coast of Portugal. These are the places travelers want to come across. Don't hesitate for one minute... make sure to book your travel here and enjoy this lovely town and home.

I stayed with the always cheerful Diogo and his mum last summer, during the annual film festival. It's been a joy throughout, thanks to the friendly and homely atmosphere. It doesn't matter if you feel in a party mood, if you're a bit tired or worn down, if you're feeling homesick or can't deal with goodbyes, if you're crazy or quiet, an early bird or a night owl... you're made feel welcome from the first second right through the last! I'll be staying there anytime, every time I'm in Espinho, for sure!! I just know you're gonna love them too :-)

I stayed there for 3 nights and I really felt wellcome, Diogo is super kind and warm, full of suggestions and hints about the whole Portugal and willing to share his knowledge while big mama adds the magic :D they just know how to do it! The place is really well mantained, confortable and clean but not aseptic, it makes you really feel at home. Hope to go back again :)

I stayed at 18th St. Hostel for ten days. A brilliant choice for a sole traveller. Diogo is a super-warm lively host and a brilliant organiser who brings people together. Thank you Diogo you made my entire stay really special, sending me on sight-seeing visits, introducing me to the nicest local restaurants, fine Duoro wines and the best food, even bringing his beautiful friends to have dinner and evenings out with his guests. We celebrated Portugal winning the UEFA Cup over an amazing evening with the locals. Esphino is a wonderful seaside town spinning with the excitement of the sea and the surf (you can join Diogo at the surf school). The hostel is clean and cool in the summer with plenty of places to be alone or mix with others. Great for sole travellers or those travelling in groups. Portugal I love you, Esphino you are in my heart. Diogo, thank you again. 5/5.

18th street Hostel is more than just a hostel, it's a way of life. It is the place where you're going to make friends from all around the world, you're going to experience the potuguese living and feel inspired by the poetry written in the walls. Diogo, the owner, is the heart of the hostel and an excellent guide to experiencing Espinho the proper way. Big Momma, his mum, is a warm, welcoming host that will surely make you feel at home in Espinho.

18th st. hostel is just the perfect place to experience Espinho, mainly through the hostel's owner Diogo, you'll feel at home away from home and recieve the best care possible. From the best local resturants and bars, to the best beaches to surf, Diogo's on it and will make sure you have the best time. The hostel is clean and comfy, excellent restrooms and bathrooms, a kitchen to use at all times, and a great inner courtyard that you can just sit around and chill. The most important is that Diogo's trying to make as close a group as possible from all the guests, and really makes you feel like you're a part of a family. Highly recommended!!

Not only a place to stay but also a whole experience. And for those who are seeking the portugese experience this place is the best!

Very nice and friendly staff, both in the hostel and in the water! You'll get the best surf teacher you can find, Luis is amazing and always with a smile on his lips :-) You'll definitely enjoy your time here for 100% and make sure you'll get the "magic push" - than you'll catch every wave easy peasy! Thanks for some awesome weeks together. I'll be back for sure <3
