Wir hatten einen tollen Abend hier: mit Glück noch einen Tisch bekommen und uns von Anfang an wohl gefühlt. Super nette Bedienung, leckeres lokales Bier aus Coimbra und tolles Essen. Pragmatisch, herzlich, portugiesisch.

Just ok. The food was okay but nothing spectacular. We ordered the roast pork and cheese tapas, stuffed mushrooms with bacon, and spicy chickpea salad. The salad was not spicy nor spiced and the roast pork tapas was a pork burger with very tough, unsalted meat. The mushroom was my favorite but it was just one large mushroom with cheese and chunks of ham. Everything seemed pricy for what you got and the service was lackluster. Would not return.

Muy bien. Sitio muy pequeño, sin aire ni ventiladores, al menos cuando nosotros fuimos no estaban conectados. En verano recomiendo ir por la noche, tiene terraza y con la brisa que pasa se esta de maravilla. Las tapas una pasada. Son abundantes. Nos pedimos 4 para dos y casi no las terminamos. Y a destacar los postres. Caseros y riquísimos. Volvería seguro.

Excelente! O restaurante é pequenino com espaço externo para sentar na parte histórica de Coimbra com belos sítios para se apreciar. A rapariga que nos atendeu foi extremamente simpática com boas dicas das opções do cardápio. A comida é divina, o Bacalhau na Cama Redonda é um dos pratos principais e é sensacional, indico! Há também muitas opções de petiscos, comidas vegetarianas e veganas.

É um pequeno local numa zona emblemática da cidade de Coimbra. Tem muitos petiscos e opções vegetarianas e veganas e a comida é saborosa. Contudo tenho que apontar que os preços são excessivos.

Petit restaurant agréable avec un serveur aux petits soins et une chef très attentionnée (allergie au lactose). Je recommande fortement de s’arrêter ici même si la terrasse est petite.
Ne vous trompez pas car il y a une grande terrasse très peu accueillante juste à côté !!!

Situado al lado de la catedral vieja de Coimbra es un restaurante pequeño que cada vez que pasas veras la terraza completa.
Nos ha costado conseguir mesa, en nuestro tercer intento lo conseguimos, y ha merecido mucho la pena. Comida casera cocinada con mucho mimo. Una presentación rústica y cuidada acorde con el tipo de comida. Los camareros muy amables.

Extremely friendly service, cute design, small place. Very good food (sometimes requires a longer wait) and quite a few options in the menu to pick from. Nice music (staff also sings:).
Place really seems to have a soul. Definitely one of the best restaurants/cafes I've visitited in Portugal.

A cosy place, with very nice and polite employees. The food is tasty, especially if you're a great fan of cheese. If you're not, then this might not be the best place for you. However, it can be a little expensive for portuguese people, with dinner meals reaching 15€ or more. Overall, it's a lovely place and I'll probably be coming back in the future.

They know how to drive customers away before they even sitting down. Rude and appalling service -at least from the waiter who was taking care of the outside area. There were only 2 tables taken, at around 9PM on a Tuesday when we got there so looked relaxed enough. (We have a small dog so it always have to be outside for us, but this is not a problem.) When you feel confused and unwelcome like this in a restaurant, then it is a sign not to take the seats but we did, first. So when the waiter blew his third chance to be decent and professional we didn't have a choice but to stand up and leave. He was ignorant and straight down rude. Bye!

Lovely tiny gem in the beautiful area of Coimbra! It is very small but food is tasty, fresh and made with love and care. The stuff is friendly and energetic which makes it even nicer! I would highly recommend for light lunch or for couple of drinks! I had a very tasty salad with cheese honey and nuts and some Sardinia’s in tomato sauce !

Very friendly staff (eva?) who explained the menu to us in English and made us feel very welcomed. Cod with mushroom was DELICIOUS as was the pasta with spinach and mushroom.
Minus one star for the TERRIBLE COFFEE. Do not bother with the coffee. Save your euros for an egg tart elsewhere

Una magnífica experiencia. El trato inmejorable, la chica que nos atendió lo primero que hizo fue ponerles un cuenco de agua a los animales. Y muy amable.
El restaurante es extremadamente pequeñin,pero tiene veladores en una plazoleta muy tranquila en la zona centro. A 5 minutos de la Biblioteca de Joanina.
La comida exquisita. Preguntar recomendaciones:
Botaque, sopa del día y bacalao con setas. Sabroso y riquísimo.
El postre típico de Coimbra....pedir ese.

Lugar incrível próximo à Universidade de Coimbra e com várias opções de lanches e porções, além de saladas e sopas.
Não há pratos com arroz, porém as coisas que pedimos estavam deliciosas e muito saborosas.
Há massas e pratos vegetarianos, além de uma boa seleção de cervejas artesanais, algumas delas locais.
A garçonete que nos atendeu, Eva, é extremamente atenciosa e simpática, com um bom humor incrível.
O restaurante é pequeno, com apenas 4 mesas, mas há uma varanda ao lado de fora com mesas também.
Super recomendo!

O serviço não é o melhor, peca pela simpatia, mesmo assim esperámos pela nossa vez. Diz que é apto para vegetarianos mas as opções são poucas e a boiar em gordura. A alheira vegetariana vale a pena mas não vem com acompanhamento e cobram como se fosse um prato principal!

Es un sitio bastante para turistas y tal, pero la verdad es que comimos bien y son realmente agradables.
Tomamos un embutido que no recuerdo cómo se llama pero está muy rico, bacalao a la cama redonda (al horno sobre un champiñón) y un postre que se llama Doa María, con leche condensada y galletas
De precio, normal. No es barato. 28 euros dos personas.

I chose the restaurant based on the reviews on google but I recommend not to go there. We waited 1.5h for plate of cheese, one filled champignon and a fig salad without gigs and three same pastas with spinach which is definitely not worth it. Even though the waiter was all time smiling it didn’t help to enjoy the food. Pasta was without any salt so without any taste and I would say that the best course was the filled champignon. Be prepared once you go to the toilet that there is only candle light I thing there are lots of better places to visit than this one.

Super friendly owner who explained all the delicious dishes with great passion. Would recommend this place to everyone looking for a relaxed dinner spot. Don’t forget to try the goat cheese salad and Maria’s recommendation - the Codfish in Mushroom with Cheese on top, it’s so good.

We stayed for 1h30. Not because the food and drink was so amazing that we had to carefully chew to enjoy. We were told that one of the dishes would take 15 minutes and it ended up taking 45 minutes: just a little codfish on a mushroom in the oven. This was one of our 3 tapas.
The food itself was ok, but nothing that would justify such a great wait. One of the tapas was incredible - I never though one could make an oven baked egg rock hard and with a skin that felt like plastic wrapping.
The kitchen is staffed by students, which would be fine, but in a kitchen you kinda want to have someone who knows how to prep and cook - one of the staff was slicing an onion so horribly slowly and unevenly that going to the dentist to get your teeth pulled out feels less painful. No wonder everything takes so long.
The only dish that felt really good was unsurprisingly the one that didn’t require any actual cooking - a fried Portuguese chouriço which would taste good if you ran it over with a truck before serving.
I don’t understand the 5 star reviews. This is clearly a tourist trap. You really have to make an effort to eat bad in Portugal, and this place is really trying to provide you that unique experience.

Food came in an hour (even though it wasn't something complicated ... Just some oven baked eggs) and generally the place is addressed to tourists who have no idea how the real Portuguese food tastes like. The dishes are more or less tapas but fulfilling / caloric as they contain loads of cream, mozarella or eggs. Very dissapointed especiallg given the high ranking found online.

Totalmente desaconsejado. Largos tiempos de espera, tanto en el servicio como en la cocina. Desde que nos sentamos hasta que recibimos nuestra comida pasó más de una hora. Además llegó antes el segundo plato que la ensalada.
Me gustaría pensar que este comentario les hará mejorar, pero con la infraestructura que tienen en cocina lo mejor que podrían hacer es limitarse a cocinar sándwiches.

No vayáis en verano. La minicocina ya sirve con dificultad a las 10-13 personas que caben en el local, como para poder atender tambien las 6 mesas grandes de fuera.
Para una ensalada, un plato de pasta y unas berenjenas tuvimos que esperar una hora y media!!!! Incluso con la bebida tardaron 20 minutos... Lo peor es que cuando te sientas no te advierten de la espera, porque si no todo el mundo se iría.
La comida correcta, raciones pequeñas para ser Portugal y caras para lo que ofrecen(siempre según el estándar portugués).
Sinceramente no entiendo las buenas reseñas de local, imagino que las habran comprado

Extremely long wait (1,5 hours) for some simple dishes. Kitchen is not equipped to handle any number of guest. Food was so so, pasta was bad and had no taste. We where shocked with the high price we had to pay in the end. Very unfortunate, the place might have potential.

Nice, cosy interior. Feels like a student bar, with craft beers on the shelves. The service is also friendly and helpful. Yet the bacalau with bread for two was quite small and not so tasty. Also the home made jucie (kiwi and apple), although tasty, was quite expensive (4€). The service was quite slow as well (around 45 minutes waiting time). So - go there for a beer and snacks, but ratuer not for a lunch.

Worst Restaurant in Portugal
On the plus side, the waiter was very pleasant, they had a toilet seat, and the decor was interesting. On the negative side, the food was dire. It was like food thrown together by students without a sense of taste. No dish had any seasoning, sauce, or flavour. The aubergine with cheese and tomato was just that. The Chickpea and sausage salad was just sausages and chickpeas, no flavouring, dressing, or vegetables. It tasted of nothing. Cod in a roll had some onion in it, but I'd be embarrassed to serve it to close and sympathetic friends, let alone put it as a dish on a restaurant. Seriously, if you're a vegetarian, you're better off with a cheese omlette at a standard restaurant. I can only imagine that the 5 star reviews have been left by desperate vegans keen to big up a restaurant that claims to have a few non meat options than anybody who seriously is interested in food.

Abbiamo aspettato 2 ore per mangiare sardine in scatola e un tagliere di salumi e formaggi che chiedevano solo di essere tagliati. Vino della casa di pessima qualità e prezzo non adeguato. Tra l'altro non c'erano la metà delle cose scritte sul menu. Non accettano carte. Sconsigliato

Pedimos un plato con espinacas, y resultó ser unas espirales (duras) con espinacas y champiñones, y poca cantidad. Luego una alheira, que es un embutido típico, que tenía más pan que carne (y dentro nos encontramos un hueso). Probé una cerveza artesanal de Coimbra, que no estaba mal. Al no gustarnos la comida, no pedimos postres ni café, y nos fuimos con mala sensación del sitio

This place has a very local feel. We ate the eggplant, sausage and cheese platter and the salad with bacon and cottage cheese which were all delicious. The service is a bit slow seeing as there are only 3 staff members working. Despite that they were doing their best to speed things up and they were extremely kind. The food was worth the wait. I definitely recommend this place.

Delicious traditional Portuguese food. I had their cod fish with mushroom plus a codfish salad and it was phenomenal. All fresh, very friendly service and a nice atmosphere that feels warm and cozy. Will note that they only accept cash but this is normal in Portugal. Would visit again for sure!

Camareras muy agradables que te hacen buenas recomendaciones. Un lugar sencillo y pequeño (parece el salón de casa). El champiñón relleno de vegetales nos encantó a todos. Pedimos ensaladas (algo ligero) y salimos encantados. De postre algo tipo yogur de caramelo para una cucharada cada uno y rematar la cena.

Nettes kleines Restaurant.
Wir haben im Innenbereich gesessen und wollten abends eigentlich nur eine Kleinigkeit essen.
Uns hat es dann dort so gut gefallen das wir denn ganzen Abend dort verbracht haben und uns durch verschiedene Getränke und kleine Speisen probiert haben.
Die Bedingung und die Köchin war Mega freundlichen und das Essen sehr lecker.

Quantidades exageradas de comida, mas com fraca qualidade. Pedimos cogumelos recheados, que tinham tanto queijo que o sabor dos cogumelos era impercetível. Sandes de pernil assado, em que o pernil já nao era fresco, seco e gorduroso. Mas o pior e que me leva a fazer esta crítica foi a falta de profissionalismo dos empregados de mesa, pedimos a conta, esperamos mais de 10 minutos (e o restaurante estava vazio), quando vimos que a conta estava demorada, dirigimo-nos ao interior onde o staff todo se encontrava a conversar e a comentar redes sociais. Nem um pedido de desculpa pela demora, limitaram-se a acabar de conversar e só depois é que nos ajudaram. Não recomendo, de todo. Espaço que claramente tenta apenas "agradar" aos turistas

The waitress was friendly and helpful when I arrived. Then after waiting nearly 15 mins for no service (they took orders from tables arrived after me). Even though I was a solo diner, its no excuse to feel invisible. I just got up and left. Will not go back.

Fuimos a este restaurante por la buena nota que tiene, llegamos a la puerta y pasan de atendernos, les pregunto si tienen sitio y me dicen que no, les pregunto si se va a liberar algún sitio y medicen que en 15 min , esperamos se levantan unos chicos y pregunto si puedo unir dos mesas, me dice la camarera que si, procedo a moverlas y viene otra camarera y de mala gana me dice que la mueven ellas, tardan unos 10 min en juntar las mesas y no solo que une una mesa que está alejada con otra, cuando tienen dos cerca , lo mejor de todo es que nos las ponen al sol, nos sentamos, no nos dan carta y no nos atienden, viendo la actitud de las camareras y que el resto de mesas están sin servir, decidimos levantarnos e irnos, lo siento, pero no vale la pena...

Un local muy pequeño y acogedor. El personal es muy agradable y te ayudan con los distintos platos. El chorizo lo cocinan en vivo prendiendo fuego al contenido de un contenedor de barro. Está muy bueno, del mismo modo que los champiñones (uno pero muy grande).

Fair enough. Food is really tasty and sophisticated, small portions so fair for its price. Tbh, I expected more.
We were told to be patient as they were delayed, not a problem for us, but the service was very poor, they forgot our tea, we had to go for the account, other customer waited for 1 hour.
As I said, fair enough for 1-day tourist, would not repeat but I don't regret at all.

Leider absolut nicht zu empfehlen. Wir haben über eine Stunde auf unser Essen gewartet,welches dann auch noch sehr schlecht war. (Thunfisch aus der Dose mit Lachs wird zu einem „Seafood Salat)

I'd do 6 stars if I could. Just a perfect late lunch experience. A small restaurant, with tables outside on a cobblestone courtyard. Delicious eggplant and garlic shrimp dishes. Fabulous white Sangria. Slow but dedicated and friendly service. Very reasonable prices. We would have stayed all afternoon if we could.

Remember they have siesta times!! Google always say they're open all day but restaurants do take a mini break in the late afternoon. Dinner doesn't start/open till 6:30pm so keep that in mind before heading there (: also a very small restaurant with an outside patio. So I recommend big groups to reserve a table.

Small restaurant near the cathedral. Food was nice, but service could be improved easily... Don't expect to have a menu in Spanish, the waiter seemed proud of not having it. She also reminded us very kindly that Spanish tapas were small whereas Portuguese ones were really big. Being Spanish tourists amongst the most numerous there, her beaviour doesn't seem the most sensible.

I had mixed sausage and cheese plate and a Belgium styled craft beer from Portugal.
It's a bit confusing, because two restaurants share one terrace. For Maria Portuguesa take the red tables and chairs.
Food is served only from 18.30 onwards. Make sure to get recognized by the waiter/waitress.

this is a very well hidden tourist trap!
based on all the good reviews I was expecting at least to receive food but my dog’s food tastes a million times better than what they serve.
they have an improvised kitchen so be aware that preparing the food takes years because they cannot make several plates at once.
Prices are waaaay to high for the quality of that thing they call food.
We had some mushrooms with codfish and pasta with mushrooms and cream.
I believe they used all the salt on the stuffed mushrooms because the other plate was tasteless. the mushrooms were eatable but definitely not worth 10 eur.
the pasta on the other hand....they probably sat in water for too long because they were full of water, they had no salt at all and the sauce was actually barely present and it was anyway tasteless as well. the only good thing was a cherry tomato they used as garnish....
I have never ever in my life eaten something worst than those ( and the waiter said to someone at a different table that he recommends these because those with pesto are not that good...)

Vegetarian stuffed mushrooms were very good (a bit pricey for 8Euros). Very friendly staff. The place is small - indoors are only 5 tables - there is more outside seating (there are tables and umbrellas for another restaurant too). Come early.

Had a great dinner at Maria’s with my partner. We both found the food simple and yet very tasty. We very much appreciated the significant vegetarian options (not obvious when in Portugal).
The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed, all the staff is young and seem to very much enjoy his work. Everything had an handcrafted and welcoming feeling. I would definitely suggest it to anyone open to an alternative eating place.
Not sure it is the right place for someone looking for a standardised restaurant.

Firstly, make sure you sit in the oxblood coloured chairs, the grey chairs are a completely different restaurant (but in the same place). The one friendly waitress (eva) kept me entertained with her bubbly nature welcoming everyone with a two arm open bow: “welcome to Maria’s”
Simple yet incredibly delicious, it was everything I wanted for lunch.

I would not go even on a bet. Don’t know what the people who gave it 5 stars were smoking but it must have been good. I ordered the quiche which might have been good a week ago but was long past it’s best by date. It was also cold, sent it back for a reheat and it was then dried out. My wife has pasta with mayonnaise and spinach. She thought it was awful. The waiter acted as if he were a member of the royal family sent there as a punishment.
Bathroom has no toilet seat.
My advice, avoid at all costs

Não tive sequer oportunidade de provar a comida, pois os empregados eram fedelhos mal-educados e arrogantes que estavam ali para se divertir, e não para trabalhar. Chamo a atenção para o rapaz que nunca deveria estar a lidar com pessoas, pois era arrogante e hostil. As coleguinhas tinham o mesmo comportamento e, quando chamei a atenção, em vez de desculpas, ouvi respostas que mais encaixavam em adolescentes de 13 anos do que jovens adultos profissionais. Comida de primeira qualidade! Pena que algumas coisas que pedi não tinha, apesar de estar no cardápio: sopa, salmão...Mas isso não tirou o mérito de ter me cativado. A comida estava perfeita. A decoração é algo interessante e está bem próximo a Universidade de Coimbra, ao lado da rua Quebra Costas. Tem-se a opção de sentar lá fora, mas como estava deliciosamente frio, dentro estava mais aconchegante. Os atendentes muito atenciosos. Recomendo visita!

Experiencia inmejorable. Mezcla de comida casera tradicional con opciones más atrevidas.
Local acogedor, personal muy amable, decoración original, buenos precios y COMIDA DELICIOSA.
Recomiendo el bacalao que se sirve en una pequeña olla de barro y las berenjenas al horno. Todos los platos parecían deliciosos.
Sin duda volvería a Coimbra sólo por disfrutar de este restaurante.

Mały klimatyczny lokal. Jedzenie bardzo dobre. Miła obsługa. Kucharz pozwolił nam zabrać niedojedzony posiłek w szklanym naczyniu do zwrotu następnego dnia. :)

Sitio muy pequeño, con apenas sitio para 15 personas pero con unos platos que merecen la pena. Tiene una amplia carta muy variada con raciones ideales para compartir. Muy recomendable la cazuela de arroz, setas y huevos. Buena atención de los camareros y de la dueña, la cual nos ofreció un licor de Coimbra al finalizar la comida y nos contó alguna anécdota interesante de la ciudad.

Ambiente fantástico com o tipicamente português em ênfase. Estar na casa onde viveu o Zeca Afonso é por si só especial. O atendimento não podia ter sido melhor, recebem de forma calorosa. A comida é diferente do habitual o que dá vontade de voltar. Adorei!

Very good food and a nice location which is not too close to the tourist stream. Waiter was very new and couldn't explain the dishes very well but very friendly and tried to help as much as he could. Food quality was excellent with some waiting time (~20-30 minutes)

The BEST meal we had in our 3 weeks in Portugal!! The wait staff was incredibly friendly, the food (we had pasta, bread with veggies and cheese, potatoes, and cinnamon cake) was really exceptional. The prices were really reasonable, almost all dishes less than €10. Go here if you have the chance! Make sure to make a reservation! Just a day before or the same day.

Hemos pedido la ensalada de bacalao y la pasta de espinacas, definitivamente es para volver a venir, queda guardado en nuestra lista de restaurantes.
La calidad del plato, está a la altura del precio.
Recordad que las mesas son las rojas, no las blancas del bar de al lado.
Se trata de un restaurante apartado, bien recogido y con una buena atención al cliente.
Recomendado!

It is one of the places to go in town, to eat a great codfish. The manager, Eva, is very creative when it comes to codfish and I recommend to always check with her, on whether a new dish has been added over the menu. The presentation is nice, although a bit déja vu within the nostalgia/vintage concept. But the food is good and service is nice. Would recommend.

Nourriture ok mais AUCUNE organisation... Du coup plus de 20mn pour avoir la carte, 20mn pour la prise de commande, 1h pour une salade. De plus les toilettes sont horribles... Chacun son métier et C est très clairement pas le leur !

Petit resto un peu difficile à trouver, mais qui en vaut la peine. Il y avait beaucoupe de choix, vegés entre autres, et à des prix raisonnables. Les aubergines gratinées sont tout simplement délicieuses, tout comme la salade de figues et proschiutto!
