Sophie Woods: My partner and I ate at Soho Coffee in the departure lounge for breakfast ahead of our return flight to the UK. As there were only a handful of flights departing that day the lounge was virtually empty, and we were served quite quickly. I ordered an Americano with my avocado, and my partner a Coke Zero and some pancakes. But what made this experience so great was not what we ordered, but what some other customers ordered after us. It was an American group, who were all over the place when ordering. They were over-pronouncing words to the staff as if they were deaf when in actual fact quite a few of them had relatively good English. One woman said she wanted an Americano coffee, asking “do you know what that is?” to a man stood below a menu that included such beverage. “Yes, I do. Would you like one?” he said. “Two” she said, holding up two fingers and mouthing it in such a way that was blatantly rude. “Sure thing,” he said. She returned to the table, only after picking up a couple of bottles of ketchup. And a short time later, their ‘Americano’s’ were ready to pickup. Instead of being served in the usual way, as mine was, the man making the drinks (not the same man who took the order, a different one), went overboard with whipped cream and sugar on top. I didn’t notice this at first, but my partner did and said the staff were messing with them. They hadn’t asked for their drink to be topped off like this, but I didn’t think they would do this. But then another person ordered an Americano, they weren’t American, and it was served in the usual way, ie a cup with no whipped cream and sugar sprinkled all over it. It was hilarious. Anyway, our food was great. Our drinks were good. The service we received was excellent. And the entertainment was priceless.

Ajuda? Atendimento ao cliente? Ninguém te diz olá, ninguém te olha nos olhos, ninguém quer fazer nada a menos que sejamos abordados. O caixa, embora completamente amigável, é por isso que eles recebem duas estrelas, em vez de apenas uma. Os dois porcos são apenas um de um bando de empregados, enquanto eu olhava à esquerda e à direita, para cima e para baixo, para alguém responder a algumas perguntas.

Esperei muito tempo para tentar arranjar um trabalhador para me ajudar. Andou um pouco na loja até que finalmente viu um jovem a abastecer-se nas prateleiras. Eu disse-lhe que precisava de ajuda. Ele me avisou que isso me ajudaria, para que eu voltasse para o corredor onde eu precisava de ajuda, pois ele iria me encontrar lá. Assim o fiz e, claro, o jogo de espera começou. Esperei cerca de 15 minutos e nada. Então eu dei mais 10 minutos. Só por curiosidade, decidi voltar para onde o tinha visto inicialmente. Ele ainda lá estava, mas mais abaixo na prateleira da meia. Eu sabia pelo seu olhar inicial que ele realmente queria ajudar, mas eu tinha que lhe dar uma chance. Só não valia a pena dizer-lhe nada neste momento.
