No stars, but cooks like at least one, possibly two. Great team, good coordination between kitchen and service. The wine pairing was divine. The sommelier impressed us with his deep knowledge of vinification details and nuances that can only be acquired when you learn wine making from your elders, or your grandfather, as in this instance. A great experience and an unforgettable evening. I know the team does not have star ambitions, but they deliver on M star level. So, take it as the best kept secret and enjoy as we did!

Non ci sono parole per descrivere l’esperienza culinaria che abbiamo provato.. consigliato il menù Algarve di degustazione e soprattutto l’accompagnamento coi vini.. ci hanno fatto provare due vini, un bianco e un rosso, invecchiati 20 anni da sogno!servizio di altissimo livello e un dolce pensiero per noi che festeggiavamo un anniversario di matrimonio. Prezzo proporzionato al posto.. consigliato! È stato il pasto migliore in tutto il viaggio Portogallo!

Após ter feito a reserva utilizando uma aplicação para esse efeito recebi um email no qual fui informada que não aceitam famílias/grupos com crianças com menos de 8 anos de idade. Não recomendo este restaurante por terem uma enorme desconsideração pelas crianças e consequentemente pelas suas famílias. Só falta mesmo colocarem à porta um dístico com o sinal de proibição em cima do rosto de uma criança. É uma atitude discriminatória, vergonhosa, que deve ser tornada publica e que deve ser combatida. Se pudesse daria zero estrelas!

My family came here after hearing about the Michelin star buzz for this place. As a not so serious person, I was perplexed when I asked them to substitute a few courses because of my food allergy and they said they couldn't accomodate substitutions because it didn't fit well with the narrative and story progression of their dishes. So they opted to just leave me out on a few courses...weird... But aside from that the food was generally tasty and creative.

Sem dúvida que se come bem, mas só tem duas opções em menu, e ambas menus de degustação, sendo que um casal não pode optar pelos dois menus na mesma refeição. Também o chefe estava ausente, e foi um assistente, qualificado é certo, que confeccionou os pratos a partir das receitas do chefe. Não volto.

Ужинали в этом ресторане во время отдыха в отеле, где он расположен. Интересный опыт. У нас были дегустационные меню с вином. Блюда выглядели очень необычно, вкус оригинальный, порции маленькие... именно то, что ждешь от подобного ресторана. В мае ресторан не был полностью заполнен - но и пустым он тоже не был. Обслуживание прекрасное.

Participamos de uma experiência única no Alquimia chamada Wine Talks, em que o chef Luís Mourão apresentou pratos com elementos desconstruídos (sabores marcantes e inesquecíveis) harmonizados por champagnes e vinho do Porto! Uma viagem através dos tempos e sentidos! Amparados pelo engenheiro Saraiva (Rozes). Sem duvida uma das melhores experiências que tivemos na vida! Lembranças essas que carregaremos nas nossas memórias. Logo no início fomos recebidos com música ao vivo e um coquetel de boas vindas, a qualidade do serviço impressionou! Simplesmente perfeito!!!!

We went here for our friend’s 40th. Incredible experience from start to finish. From the greeting to the petits fours- excellent at every step. Michelin star quality tasting menu with superb wine pairings. Perfect service, bit of storytelling, creativity, setting. A highlight of our trip.

My wife and I had our first experience of the all new Al Quimia last night to celebrate my birthday. We’ve been fairly regular visitors since chef Luís Mourão first opened the restaurant in 2013, so our expectations were understandably high. We were not disappointed!! The evening began with the warmest greeting and an introduction to new maître d' Nuno Ramos, who is a perfect fit with the dedicated Al Quimia team. Consummately professional, friendly, attentive, and very knowledgable. We were invited to sit “front and centre” facing the impressive new open kitchen. Despite my initial reservations that this might detract from the wonderful atmosphere that is always so evident in Al Quimia, it is in fact a great addition to the restaurant. Being able to see the calm, attentive way that the team of chefs (or are theyI wizards?) put the dishes together is mesmerising! Each dish has its finishing touches and final presentation applied at the pass by chef (grand wizard) Luis Mourão personally, with incredible attention to detail. Another dominating feature of the stunning new interior, is Sommelier Hugo Ribeiro’s new “toy”. An enormous copper wine store that almost fills one wall of the restaurant. This is constructed with multiple carousels in temperature controlled cabinets behind glass doors. Being able to see the huge range of wines available is truly impressive. As ever, most of the wines are sourced from small producers throughout Portugal, but during our meal a beautifully smooth Chianti Classico made an appearance! The new menu offers two degustation options, and a number of a la carte dishes. We chose the “O Farroba” degustation menu which is biased more towards meat than fish. It offers 7 formal courses, but we were treated to a number of Amuse Bouche courses in addition. As ever in Al Quimia, nothing is what it seems! Every dish has unique, surprising elements that makes each of them equally memorable. I won’t spoil any of these surprises in this review, suffice to say the incredibly high standards of innovation and quality shine through the entire experience. The food is cooked to perfection, the presentation is immaculate, the service is very special. Add to this the skill with which wines have been selected for pairing and you have all the ingredients for a memorable evening! This is a very special restaurant in a wonderful location, and whilst the first Michelin star can’t be far away, a second will surely follow. It really is that good.

This place is amazing! Great food, attentive staff and many unexpected additional parts to make an enjoyable meal. If its a special occasion, want a treat and something different, this is the place to go! I would highly recommend the "beef" dish. This place is comparable to high end restaurants in London.

Opened two weeks ago, already fully operational - five star experience on all facets from food, to service, wine pairing and ambience. Very experimental journey on palate of the tasting menu. Wine pairing with local Portuguese grape varieties and wine makers - bold and excellent choices. Tasting menu unfortunately is either meat or seafood. Would be a more complete journey if the head chef can mix the two to maximize taste bud experience

Apparently just reopened after 9 month renovation. Amazing presentation and great service. Worth the price if you like food and wine.

Great place for a fine dining experience. My partner and I were impressed by the tasty and creatively presented courses, the staff was friendly, and the sommelier makes great wine recommendations. ...a must if you are looking for an exquisite meal

Innovative cuisine esthetically presented by people passionate about their job. Exceptionally good wine pairing. Best gastronomic experience in whole Algarve. Fantastic value for the money. Pleasant atmosphere with lots of space between tables; would suit business dinners as well. 1 year later, I have been here again. Absolutely brilliant. New thrilling tasting menu, new perfect wine pairing. Flawless service. The weather allowed to sit outside. Very romantic. Unbelievable value for money.

Excellent food and very professional, friendly service. The tasting menu is 9 courses officially but I think I counted 13. Great value considering the experience.
