This place has an amazing history that was explained by our amazing host Inês. She was from beginning to the end of the visit explaining everything about the buildings, the surroundings, the owner family, the history behind the great wines, the horse carriage racing museum, just amazing... We ended the visit with an amazing wine tasting, of Reserva da Familia 2016 white, a Ravasqueira Premium 2016 rose, a Seleção do Ano 2017 red, a Vinha das Romãs 2014 red and a Late Harvest 2017. Both me and my family came back delighted with the details and all the flavors, bouquets and fragrances in this amazing wines. The only bad thing was that unfortunately we were unable to fly with the Late Harvest we bought to Barcelona...... But well, next time we will be back for some more.

The estate is beautiful — and impressive! We toured Monte da Ravasqueira in February, so the grapes weren’t growing yet. The vineyards stretch out in all directions and we were led through them to the processing plant, which itself was impressively large. Production wasn’t taking place since it was Sunday, but it was still interesting to see. We also visited the on-site carriage museum, with horse-drawn carriages dating back to the 18th Century. I never thought I’d need to see that, but am surprisingly glad I did! And, finally, we did a wine tasting of six of their excellent (and affordable) wines.

This estate is a staggering 7,000 plus acres and has been owned by the same family since shorty after WW2. The family is one of the wealthiest in Portugal. This property was their summer estate where they groomed horses for a long time before the current generation decided to turn it into a winery. We arrived by car and found ample parking. We had a wonderful private tour of the estate. Our guide was knowledgeable and allowed us to not only explore the facility to be be educated into the process of turning grapes into wine. We walked from the tasting room to the fermenting facility which from a distance looked like old buildings but were in fact newer building made to look old. Inside we wondered along the gantries and looked down on the large stainless steel vats where the grapes are crushed and the wine starts its first fermenting in large stainless steel tanks. We then explored the storage room where a certain amount of wine destined for a vintage label are stored in oak barrels. We were allowed to have a peek into the bottling room where modern machinery fills and labels the bottles. The fields are labeled with Portuguese Ceramic tile signs that identify the type of grape grown there. Heading back to the tasting room we passed the private residence of the family which is still in use today. Along the way we popped into a building which forms the museum of antique carriages collected over the years by the original owner of the property. Carriages for the 1700 look as they did in the period. They have not been rebuild or reupholstered. The collection is very interesting even if your not into carriages. Just the array of the transportation of the pre-automobile era over the centuries is fascinating. We spent some time in front of a unique and rather large carriage that was once owned by the famous car designer Bugatti himself. From the museum we moved on to the wine tasting. The tasting comes with a fee depending on what you want to taste. In the end we discovered that the wine we liked is only $6 more at home in North America as the price the winery was charging. This was surprising and frankly, disappointing. One would expect the price to far less than the full retail half a world away. In the end we did not buy any wine. However, we decided to try a bottle of their champagne or Spumante as they call it because the can not use the Champagne name. We brought it home and look forward to opening it. The property also has a restaurant which requires a reservation in advance. If your in the area, its worth a tour.

Beautiful property and winery. Out-of-the-ordinary because of the collection of antique carriages that visitors can see on the guided tour. Beautiful wine tasting room, interesting tour of wine-making, delicious lunch – and wine – in yet another beautiful room (with a fireplace), hosted by smiling, friendly Carlos. Teresa, our guide for the winery tour was informative, knowledgeable, nice and – when we told her we did not have a car – drove us in her car (weather was awful for walking). Worth a visit!

Excellent tour of the gorgeous grounds, coach museum and of course the best part was the wine tasting. We started our tasting in the cellars and finished with a delicious meal and smooth mature wines to accompany the food. I would absolutely recommend visiting. The staff was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable.

Gorgeous road trip from Evora. Tastings are done by reservation - be sure to call in advance. Lovely people and delicious wine. Premium level wines are heavy on the oak, but surprisingly unique and easy to drink. We purchased a few premium bottles to bring home as they don’t distribute in the US.

We stopped at Mont da Ravasqueira for some wine shopping and discovered they even produce Olive Oil and and spreadable olive oil. We had a wine tasting so we could decide which wines we would buy and we had the help of 21 year old Marina, who was a charming hostess and helped us invaluably. She has great people skills, has an extensive knowledge of the products on sale.We ended up buying several wine bottles, olive oil, and even a book!
