B Miner: I am a woman that has had my hair done by the same place/person for 15 years in the US and am now enjoying a roving retirement abroad... Which means at some point I was going to need to get my hair cut and colored by someone new... no small challenge as a lot of people may know.. After playing Goldilocks and the three bears checking out places to get my hair done in Porto Place 1 very famous name brand place, but a bit too fancy for me, not to mention expensive... and by expensive, still quite a bit less than what I paid in the US, but the vibe just wasn’t right Place 2 had good potential, but didn’t speak any English and was a little bit less than the first place, and while I am already having to trust a stranger with my hair, I at least wanted to be able to communicate... I have had bad hair experiences in the US and didn’t have a language barrier Place 3 turned out to be just right... a place just around the corner from where I was staying... they fit me into their busy day with just a short wait, consulted with me on the color, I watched many customers who were clearly regulars coming and going while getting rid of my aging greys.... when it came time to have my hair washed, an extremely thorough and relaxing experience, the woman that was washing my hair had me rolling my eyes back in my head with a wonderful head massage, it was fantastic!! After that it was time to get a cut.... the woman that cut my hair spoke English, and we talked about my hair and what would be best for the type of hair I have, balanced with how I live with it... aka I put it up in a ponytail a lot, want it to have some volume, my hair is very fine... I asked her if it was her head and hair what would she do, she gave her recommendation and having watched her work her scissors on what I know was a more technical cut than what she recommended for mine, I said ok... and I walked out of the salon with a fabulous cut and color for 1/3 of what I pay in the US (less than the first two places) make sure you bring cash since they don’t take visa....it was just the right salon, just the right vibe, excellent staff, professional, welcoming... now my problem will be finding a salon and stylist as good as what I found at this salon in Porto When looking for a place , check it out first and get a quote on the service.... not every place includes washing and drying in their cut/color prices. I can’t say enough good things about the experience, hope yours is just as great!
