This place does not look grand but it is good quality, unpretentious, great value casual dining with attentive service. A great evening meal with the family. Booking for any more than a table for two is recommended, even when we visited on a Monday night out of high season.

Great restaurant with top chef and 2 miracle/super woman in the kitchen. This wondefull combination of cheffs and Ana as the hostess in the restaurant is THE best. (reservation is needed)

One of the most enjoyable evenings in our holidays. We had luck to find a place without reservation. The welcome was warm and friendly and the food was delicious - also the fish and also the meat and the dessert. Once there you have the feeling the people are not doing their job but living their passion.

Firstly a lovely warm welcome and then the nicest food served. I enjoyed the Cataplana with Monkfush which was outstanding. My husband had the chops cooked to perfection. A great find tucked between two shops. We may be back.

Pequeño bar en una de las calles principales del pueblo muy acogedor y con un equipo muy amable. La comida espectacular y de precio asequible.

Peixe grelhado excelente. Atendimento fabulosos. O peixe é fresco, é mostrado antes de ir para a grelha. Sopa de peixe.... deliciosa. Fica localizado numa das ruas mais movimentadas de Alvor. Recomendo... Parabéns...

Can I give them 6 stars? Best meal I have had at any restaurant. Unpretentious and cozy. I Loved watching Chef Joao prepare dishes at the front while enjoying our delicious salad and wine. Our party of 4 thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Thank you for an amazing experience.

Sure the guy doing the fish is grumpy, but the server made up for it...and the food!!! Wow!! Unfortunately, they closed for holidays right after my first visit...but I kept on walking by...hoping...

De avond voor onze laatste restaurantavond tijdens deze vakantie liepen we door het centrum van het dorp. Toevallig liepen we hierlangs toen een flinke groep Zweden nogal luidruchtig uit dit restaurant kwam. Ik keek naar binnen en vroeg me af waar al die mensen dan gezeten hadden. De avond erna...na het lezen van veel reviews kozen we heel bewust voor Chefe Joao. Het welkom was hartverwarmend... inderdaad een wat nukkige oudere man aan de grill. Wij kregen een tafel er direct naast. Serieus nergens last van gehad. De keus van mijn vriendin en dochter werd de vis van de dag...de Dorado. Ik heb een biefstuk gekozen. Die had beter gekund maar voor de rest waren de sfeer, de service, de gastvrijheid en alles eromheen perfect. We weten uit ervaring dat de meeste restaurants in vakantieoorden van begin november tot ergens in april dicht zijn. Dit restaurant heeft de maand december vrij en verder het hele winterseizoen open. Dat zegt alles! We zitten over een paar maanden een eindje verderop langs de kust. Hiervoor rijden we graag om! En het barste er van de regulars deze avond.

Excellent Portugese food and great service from Ana. Try the fish cataplana which is superb and all dishes reasonably priced. Only 20 covers so need to book in high season and only take cash.

Chef Joao loopt iets wat nukkig door zijn restaurant naar zijn houtskool grill. ECHT GEWELDIGG met huiskamer sfeer, alsof je bij je opa eet! Eenmaal aan tafel een echte gastheer die de ervaring in zijn ziel heeft zitten en om zich heen een gastvrij team. Mis dit kleine zaakje niet.

Un sitio pequeño pero muy recomendable para tomar pescado del día a un precio buenísimo. Tener en cuenta que solo se puede pagar en efectivo.

Buen trato, te entienden perfectamente. La lubina y la dorada en torno a los 15€/u, con sus patatitas y su ensaladita. Riquísimo todo, recomendable!

Ich habe selten so guten Fisch gegessen wie in diesem Restaurant, dem Essen würde ich ohne Zweifel fünf Sterne geben! Sensationell, ich war 2 mal da.....einmal hätte ich Lachs und einmal Cataplana de Bacalao (unbedingt probieren)! Toller Service natürlich auch! Jamás he comido pescado tan bueno.....buenísimo! Sin duda son 5 estrellas por la comida tan deliciosa y el muy buen servicio! He estado 2 veces ahí....1 vez tenia filete de salmón y la otra vez una Cataplana de Bacalao (hay que probarlo, es delicioso)!

Very small restaurant with great food cooked on an open internal barbeque. All fresh fish & meat - you are shown the fish before its taken to be cooked. Only about 18 seats inside & 8 outside....would recommend booking. We ate there 3 times and each time the other diners we all repeat visitors, some returning from previous holidays and were warmly greeted by the staff who remembered them. We will definitely go back on our return visit next year.

Wir hatten das Glück ohne Reservierung draußen sitzen zu können. Wir waren sehr zufrieden! So wie wir es uns gewünscht haben. Der Fisch war frisch und lecker gegrillt. Und das zu einem fairen Preis! Echt zu empfehlen! Wir kommen wieder, dieses Mal mit Reservierung.

With out a doubt the best food in Alvor. I have been going here for years the food is delicious. Never disappointed, very small restaurant however the food is so good you won't mind. Friendly staff

Es un sitio pequeño pero muy acogedor, la atención es espectacular y el ambiente muy bueno Aconsejable totalmente, la camarera un encanto y la comida (por lo menos el pescado que es lo que creo que hay que pedir) muuuy bueno.

Simply Brilliant! A friend recommended this little gem when he heard that we where going to Alvor. We ended up eating there twice in one weeks holiday, had to book both times.Susanna the waitress who is great fun will show you the fish then Chefe Joao grills it coated in flavoured oils and citrus juices which then become the sauce. Can not fault food, service, or price and would highly recommend.

Chefe Joao, never disappoints. Food is always fresh and well cooked on the Barbecue. Suzane the waitress is a real character and loves to banter with the clients. Its a small restaurant with about a dozen tables so booking is essential.
