Jho’la Surf Camp is one of the most hospitable, eco-conscious, and chill places we had ever stayed.
Upon arrival, Francisco helped us feel right at home. He explained the whole house to us and showed us our room, as well as some things to do around town. The daily schedules were organized but not hectic, as we booked the surf and stay package. 8:30 breakfast, pickup around 9-10 depending on surf destination (surf lessons provided by Future Surf School 5/5 stars from us), and return back to the camp late afternoon for a well deserved beer in the hammocks, yoga, or walking around the village. Francisco makes a pack lunch normally consisting of a tasty sandwich and piece of fruit for those taking the surf classes, which helps to keep your day running smooth.
Dinner usually started around 8:30. You don’t want to miss dinner at Jho’la! Francisco cooks almost every night. The two nights he wasn’t available he gave us recommendations for restaurants in town. Each dinner seemed to be a special recipe cooked with some of the finest olive oil in Portugal. After dinner was usually spent sipping Portuguese wine on the terrace trading stories with him, the other guests, and Anne and Joseph.
Overall great experience. Jho’la Surf Camp is a truly special place in the Algarve. HUGE thanks to Francisco for the hospitality and making us feel welcome. We can’t wait to return!

For the third year i spent 8 days in Jho´la Surf Camp. The local is simply amazing, in a calm spot in Luz town, very close to the beach. The host (Francisco) is a nice guy always happy to help you, and a great traditional portuguese food cooker. Is is a bit addict about going to surf, but you know, we all are. I'm sure you will enjoy it like i do.

We have done 8 days surf camp in joh la, and we had a great time thanks to the guests from all over the world. Also the activities were well organised and the surf instructors were very nice and patient with us. We can now surf !!! Francisco cooks well but he hasn't been very warm as we have received inappropriate comments through the entire week. We, as a group, felt as we were not welcome in this guest house. In addition you have to pay everything cash and if you are not prepared it is a real issue. Indeed we met appreciated the experience thanks to the people we had the chance to meet. Ps : be careful when you get out your room at night 'cause you'll probably meet new guests (Cockroach)

At Jho'La life is a beach. Relaxing, colourful, cosy holiday home, it's a delight to the senses. Bonus: a lovely little garden with hammock space. Make sure to book dinners and surfing lessons at the camp. The host sets the bar really high in all the services provided.

This is one of the best surf camps on the coast. Francisco is so warm and welcoming and makes the BEST food!!! Spent our days Surfing and evenings chilling on one of the many terraces. Laying in one of the hammocks sipping a cold beer was the best way to end each day.
