Personnel chaleureux, servillable et très sympatique. Ėtablissement propre avec chambre (#10) très confortable. Restaurant avec menu intéressant et excellente nouriture (magrèt de canard est à recommander). Situer à 10-15 minutes de marche du centre ville, de la gare et de la station dautobus.

Nous sommes allés boire un verre les stagiaires du bar sont très gentilles mais on attend plus de service d'un établissement de ce type décevant !!!

We bekeken alleen de kruisgang van dit voormalig convent. Die was aardig, maar niet erg bijzonder zonder versierde kapitelen. Omdat we hier niet logeerden konden we verder niet rondkijken.

This is a treasure of a hotel. Beautiful restored, wonderful staff, and wonderfully quiet. Breakfast is very good,and we had a cheese sandwich at the pool which was good. However the fixed price evening meal €30 and the voice did not work for us. More variety would be good.

Got an off season discount which made it just about worth the money. Nice pool area and good location. The advertised air conditioning was off (heating only) because it was March. Still hot. Windows opened but didn't have a latch so they banged in the wind. We had an acknowledged request for a twin but still got shown a tiny double, receptionists not aware of request. Ask for a bigger room on the second floor. Coffee at breakfast undrinkable, had to have tea. Avoid the restaurant.

In heart of historic town, close to everything and beautiful hotel. Lovely bedroom with comfortable
king sized bed and balcony. Bar and food disappointing and breakfast just OK but would still

Lovely place to stay.
It’s a former convent renewed into an hotel, a “poussada” in Portuguese.
The room was big enough with a nice bathroom covered with marble. small TV, sound system with jack for the bathroom.
Into the poussada you can find a nice swimming pool and a very charming cloister.
And a Restaurant and a bar of course.
Also an ATM if you need cash.
The breakfast was good with enough choice to please everyone.

Well, we stay here in January, and the most of the hotel/convent is cold - also daytime. The staff is very friendly and eager to help. The breakfast is OK, above normal standards. We feel it fails on 2 issues: the temperature and the restaurant. The temperature is hard to influence in such an old building, but it is awkward that you have to have a sweater on during breakfast. The restaurant : the meals are approved, but it is not a "cosy" place to have a dinner, luckily Tavira offers plenty of restaurants..

Tolles Ambiente, freundliches Personal, aber das Silvestermenü war unter aller Kanone. Die meisten Speisen kalt, verkocht, ungenießbar. Der Speiseraum kalt. Das Sorbet warm. Völlig überteuert. Bloss nicht buchen. Wir sind ohne Sekt geflüchtet und haben uns lieber das Feuerwerk auf der Brücke angesehen.

Restaurant. Accueil sympathique et en français, cadre très agréable et serveur aimable et attentionné.
Nous avons pris le menu. Au niveau du « couvert », c’est peut être un peu juste mais bien rattrapé par de bons amuses bouches. Apres, on attend… et on attend pas mal. C’est d’autant plus surprenant que nous ne sommes que 5 dans le restaurant. Bon, on se dit que rien n’est préparé à l’avance et que c’est plutôt bon signe. Les entrées arrivent, rien à dire, c’est bon. Les plats principaux viennent ensuite après encore pas mal de temps et là, mauvaise surprise. C’est à peine tiède, les accompagnements aussi et les assiettes n’ont même pas été chauffées, elles sont froides ! Dommage, c’est plutôt bon…
Comment peut-on servir des plats quasiment froids dans un restaurant qui se veut de qualité, avec seulement 5 clients et en nous faisant attendre ? A croire que le chef était absent et que ce sont les marmitons qui étaient aux casseroles !
Excellents desserts.
Peut être tenterons nous de nouveau l’aventure, en espérant avoir plus de chance....

This hotel is lovely. The rooms are spacious and have loads of character due to the history of the building. The staff are lovely, the breakfasts great and it's well situated, just 5mins from the town centre.

this is such an usual hotel given it's history but it lets itself down on so many areas....
breakfast.... doesnt start until 8am...
coffee... awful.... eggs... scrambled only .. no hot plates thus eggs cold... beans... not cooked... continental led.. needs to review this.
bar.... you have to press a bell for service... and you will wait for same.
this is portugal.. but no LBV port available?
service in room... nespresso machine..great.. but charge of €2.50 per capsule?
staff lovely but service does not match stars.
pool needed to be cleaned.
TV channels ... poor.
spa... not fully opetational.. shares a therapist... couldnt get an appointment secondary to same despite fliers throughout hotel... either there is a service or there isn"t...

In de kerk een mooi gitaarconcert. De klanken van het portugese twaalfsnarige instrument verdronken enigszins in de grote ruimte van de kerk. De galerij van de Pousada bij avond is indrukwekkend, maar dat er nu ook een zwembad in de achtertuin ligt, zal de vroegere religieuze bewoners van het Convento vast verbaasd hebben.

Our taxi dropped us outside on a quiet rainy December afternoon. The receptionist welcomed us in and the bar staff showed us to a small museum. Very calm and tranquil experience. Would love to stay for a night!

Beautiful, went to visit for a wedding venue. Unfortunately the conditions are too restrictive and the price for the rooms far too high. One room was around € 180/night, minimum 3 night stay and now for 2020 € 300. It is really sad as we wanted to book it but for our guests coming from all over Europe that would have been far too expensive. Therefore 5* for the place, but 1* for restrictions and rooms price.

Also not able to control AC individually, temperature is set and controlled by the hotel so you are at their mercy and it can get very hot.

Our room was very spacious, comfortable, and quiet. I loved the thick walls, floor to ceiling window with wooden shutters, and eating breakfast in the cloisters. The church bells from across the street sounded beautiful but didn’t ring all night or too early in the morning. The hotel is conveniently located near the restaurants along the river. Breakfast included everything you could want and more.

The experience in one sentence: you don’t always get what you pay for.
Now for the good, the bad and the ugly:
1. The good:
- beautiful swimming pool which in mid August was quite quiet. The pool’s green surroundings with the longchairs are great.
- the reception staff is friendly - eager to give information and at night they brought to the room slippers even though we are staying in a standard room and only premium rooms get slippers.
- the private parking lot is convenient.
- the location (10min walk from the ferry that takes you to the beach).
2. The bad:
- the restaurant staff is not very professional. At breakfast I said good morning in Portuguese and the waiter did not respond. No one asked me if I would like some coffee or tea. In the afternoon while by the pool, I asked for a bottle of water and as I write this message it has been at least 30min since my request and there has been no sight of the water.
- they gave us a twin room even though nothing was mentioned in the reservation. I asked for it to be changed to a double bed and in the last 24h they have not changed it.
- the extras in the room are limited. No hair conditioner (important when most customers go to the beach and swim in the sea) and slippers are only for premium rooms (although you can ask for them).
3. The ugly:
- We could smell in our bedroom that someone had smoked in it a long time ago. I suspect the rules about not smoking in rooms are recent and the smell of long term smoke is impossible to remove unless you repaint the rooms.
- On our first night the bathroom smelled of urine and chemicals. We complained in the morning and they cleaned it spot clean so the smell disappeared.
Is the hotel worth it? Not entirely for the price you pay for it. The Pousadas brand 10-20 years ago was a luxury boutique hotel concept. Today that is clearly not applicable to all Pousadas. I suspect fierce competition from other hotels and even airbnb forced the Pestana group to cut a few corners to keep the hotels profitable.

We stayed here in July with our two young children and had a fantastic stay. The building is spectacular and the staff were very warm and accommodating. No request was too much trouble including washing baby bottles for us everyday! Highly recommended.

A equipe, tanto do check in, checkout e bar foi sempre atenciosa e solícita.
Os conventos, recuperados pelo grupo Pestana, são sempre um espetáculo à parte.
Bom quarto, bom banheiro, amplos corredores, lindo claustro, etc...
O grupo Pestana precisa se decidir se transforma os conventos em locais exclusivos para eventos (casamentos, batizados, etc...) ou somente para hóspedes.
Tivemos a celebração de uma casamento durante o nosso pernoite e isso transformou a estadia numa enorme furada.
Além dos hóspedes NÃO poderem acessar todas as dependências durante o evento (durou até às 23h) tivemos que ouvir a trilha sonora da festa até o seu fim.
O ar-condicionado não funcionou corretamente (fez muito calor à noite) e a banheira estava entupida.

Excelente localização, com bonito jardim à frente, com bastante espaço e sombra. Fica localizada no centro histórico de Tavira. Pode-se ir a pé até à baixa, onde encontramos restaurantes e lojas locais. Podemos andar a pé ao longo do rio Gilão.

The Pestana hotel group did a superb job of converting this historic convent into a small hotel with all the amenities. The staff is always smilling and eager to assist with your requests. It has a nice pool area, a restaurant and a bar. The breakfast, which was included, was delicious and the staff kept replenishing the buffet so everything was always readily available. The hotel has its own parking which is free. The town of Tavira has a nice historical centre and offers a diversity that other strickly resort towns around, such as Cabanas, don't have. You'll find a lot of restaurants along the river banks and the streets leading to the interior on both sides of the river.

The Pousada is a lovely building ! The staff are really amazing ! The breakfast buffet is good . We stayed one evening for dinner , it was ok but quite expensive ! The menu is quite limited and we found better options in the town. The service at breakfast and dinner was good but needed more staff ! Everyone at reception was helpful and friendly and Catalyna at breakfast was very obliging .We enjoyed our stay !!!!!!

Beautiful building, excellent location in a lovely public square in the centre of the old town. The receptionist could not have been more helpful. The rooms are not opulent, but they are comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good.

Wir waren 6 Tage in diesem Hotel und haben das Ambiente sehr genossen. Die Verbindung von historischer Bausubstanz eines Konventes mit puristischen neuen Elementen ist begeisternd. Unser Zimmer war ausreichen groß, prima ausgestattet und hatte viel Charme. Die Betten waren super. Das Team an der Rezeption macht einen tollen Job. Das Team vom Frühstücksservice hat noch Luft nach oben. Ansonsten war das Frühstück aber gut.

El personal es encantador. El convento muy bien rehabilitado, con piscina, patio central con arcadas que utilizan para poner mesas con velitas para la cena. Ruinas Almohades bien conservadas y visitantes en el interior.

Wunderbare Lage dieses einzigartigen Hauses mitten im Zentrum. Alles kann zu Fuß erlaufen werden. Sehr freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal, vom Chef bis zum Zimmermädchen. Das Frühstück lässt kaum Wünsche offen und wird im ehemaligen Kreuzigung serviert. Was will man denn noch mehr? Zugegeben, man merkt, dass das Haus einige Jahre auf dem Buckel hat, auch die Zimmer sind etwas hellhörig. Das ist aber zu wenig, um einen Stern zu reduzieren, sagen wir mal 4,75!! Wir fühlen uns gut aufgehoben und sehr wohl!!

Great experience in a converted convent. The $12M Euro renovation shows in the beautiful rooms and marble bathrooms. Breakfast is one of the best we've had touring Portugal. The 1 foot pool is perfect for little kids.

Das Hotel ist schwierig zu finden.Die Anlage ist beeindruckend, der Innenhof sehr schön und der Pool mit Wiese angenehm.Wir hatten die Suite Nr. 13 - diese war enttäuschend. Die Tür war schwierig aufzusperren, unsere Tochter hat es alleine gar nicht geschafft. Das Fenster im Schlafraum ließ sich nicht öffnen, es war dunkel und man fühlte sich eingesperrt. Einen Balkon gibt es nicht. Im kleinen Wohnraum wurde einfach der Couchtisch entfernt und mitten ins Zimmer eine Art Feldbett für unsere Tochter aufgestellt - eigentlich unzumutbar - für den Preis! Die Matratzen sind sehr hart.Das Abendessen im Restaurant war überteuert und sehr mittelmäßig. Die Restaurants in der Stadt sind deutlich besser.

Este convento foi muito bem restaurado pelo grupo pestana. Vá até ao bar tomar algo e com esse protesto aprecie o seu interior. É certamente um lugar especial. Ponto menos positivo: não será o café mais económico da sua vida.

I think this is not a five star hotel. It's perhaps a bit overrated.
Pros- Great location and two minutes walk to the little quaint high street and town square. Large rooms with high ceiling (superior room). Polite and friendly staff and all speak good English. Quiet and peaceful and non commercial.
Cons. We went on Jan 23 and the first room was so cold even with heating on that we had to be moved the next day. The next room was a better but with the dry blowing out of the heater all night to keep the room warm my lungs and mouth went all dry. The heating system needs to be changed urgently. This will be a big let down for those coming in the winter months. The draught from the poorly insulated windows don't help. The rooms are also a bit on the dark side and the lighting is poor.
The breakfast was a wide variety but was bland and tasteless. We skipped the breakfast on the day of departure as we couldn't face it again.
The meal in the restaurant we had one night was so expensive and bland. There was no one else in the restaurant except us. I understood why after I ate the food and got the hefty bill. Had a better and taster meal at a local restaurant at one quarter of the price.
All in all we will not be coming here again which is a shame really because if they address the points mentioned this could be a great hotel. On Expedia I read all these fantastic reviews which made me book but I now realise you have to consider who is writing the review and perhaps low expectations of some people.

Très bien, avec une réserve sur le manque de personnel, doù ménage de chambre fait très rapidemment, poussière et sable dans la salle de bain, derrière la porte, et impossible de se faire servir un apéritif a 19h15 au bar, tout le monde est réquisitionné pour le service diner. Pour le reste, très bien. Personnel réception adorable. Massages très bien, une vraie professionnelle de santé. Tres bon petit dejeuner avec une amplitude horaire jusquà 11h appréciable en vacances, un vrai brunch. Certains bas de murs méritent une rénovation, problème des vieille pierres infiltrations dhumidité, il ne faut pas laisser se dégrader. Isolation sonore mal faite en entend les chasses deau, la Tv des chambres voisines, malgré la grande surface dont on dispose, et les talons des personnes à létage supérieur. Bruit des Chaises sur le carrelage...

Beautiful hotel in historic convent, plus fine dining and pool abutting the old city wall. Room is comfortable, both windows open for fresh air. At the top of old town, only steps from the castle, so walking into town is easy.

Ce palace est vraiment exceptionnel. Petit-déjeuner et repas très bien présenté et succulent. Personnel très aimable. La chambre était magnifique. Et surtout le couvent est à couper le souffle.

Nearly everything was perfect, although Tavira over the weekend is very sleepy which we didnt realise. Plenty of space in the hotel and excellent staff. Would be brilliant if they could include spa facilities, just to add to everything else, but otherwise couldnt fault it.

Gorgeous small hotel with beautiful private pool area. Really relaxing long weekend break from a frantic job back home!Great breakfast included but I cant comment on other food as I didnt eat any other meals here.Great location close to the charming town and a short ferry ride to a beautiful long beach.I would definitely recommend this place although a little pricey but I was treating myself.

Atmospheric old convent converted into a 5* hotel. Our rom was large in the old part of the hotel but it had no balcony. This was no problem since it was lovely lounging around the swimming pool area. Short walk downhill to centre of town with interesting bars, restaurants and cafés

WIr waren eine Woche Ende April 2014 in Tavira. Das Hotel liegt malerisch eingebettet im Zentrum der Altstadt. Alles war rundum zu unserer Zufriedenheit: Super Service, nettes Personal, Frühstück mit begrenzter Auswahl - aber alles superlecker. Den vorhandenen Pool haben wir nicht getestet, aber der Bereich um den Pool (und der Pool selber) saher sehr gepflegt aus. Die Zimmer waren sauber, angenehm groß und dank Klimananlage gut zu temperieren. Betten waren ebenfalls super (nicht zu weich). Wir würden jeder Zeit wieder hinfahren.

sehr charmantes hotel mit schönem ambiente. eben klein und fein.sehr zu empfehlen ist auch das restaurant: top qualität aus top zutaten!auch das frühstück war sehr gut.einziges manko: kein deutschsprachiges tv programm
