Learnt about this restaurant before I even set foot in Portugal. I had to rely on reviews left by other patrons to make a decision to visit the restaurant with my group. What pleasantly surprised me was the humility of the owner/ Exec Chef Narayan Rao who besides churning out a fantastic spread at a short notice, also indulged in some interesting anecdotes from the yore! The interesting bit was the food was absolutely delicious Nothing like a little oasis in the vast desert. Would I recommend? Do you not make out what I have already said - bloody YES, is the answer

Amazing we had the best evening.
Forget the menus!!! The chef will come and find out your likes and dislikes and will make a meal just for you and your guests.
Everything is fresh and true indian food.
Blown our minds the dishes that came out where to die for. It's a family run business and the wife is just amazing full of energy and talks perfect English. You really do feel special after eating hear. The information that's given also about this food and true! Indian food is fantastic. Thankyou

You don't go in this restaurant for the view but for the welcoming and the food. The owner is really nice with costumers for any explanation and requests. Some work to improve decoration could make it definitely the place to go!

If it was possible i would rate this indian local with six stars!
The chef’s wife asked us, if she could recommend something to us and we followed her suggestions.
We use to go a lot to restaurants and we always try different and new things. But that was off the top - we were stunned by the meal and service all of the staff provided to us.
They even explained how things in india work and why they do things like they do them.
If you’re a fan of indian cuisine and you would like to expand your meal experience: go there - no excuses!

Best restaurant experience I ever had. Period.
Excellent food, the service was superb, if you have ANY questions about indian food or the culture or need a recommendation you should have a chat with the chef or his wife.
Try the fried spinach starter!!!

This is the best Indian cuisine we have ever tasted. The owner comes to your table and asks what ingredients and how spicy you want and then they produce the most amazing food. This one is a must go again, and we will!

Mérite un détours.
Exeptionnelle gentillesse aussi bien de l'épouse du chef que du chef lui-même.
Cuisine à la hauteur d'un petit gastronomique: vraiment excellente.
Entre autre je vous conseille l'entrée croustillante réalisée à base de feuilles d'épinards: une tuerie.

Often being quite a difficult customer to please and having eaten in many of the very best restaurants in London, including the best Indian in London which I can honestly say flavours do not even come close to this little Gem, the starter was honestly Michelin level, it was not even on the “Menu” it was a fresh spinach in a light thin spice batter with a mint Yoghurt on top with a chutney I am unable to describe”WOW” The service from the manageress throughout our dining experience was honestly second to none, also her husband whom is the head Chef has a real gift and skill, he came to our table to discuss options and loved pleasing and challenging our taste buds with many of his wonderful culinary skills, He has worked in many of the top restaurants in India and it shows.
Both my wife and I are so disappointed that when we go home and back to our Indian, which is a good high quality standard with many awards will fall short by so many ways, wish we could bring you home!
Just to advise if we had time the chef is doing cooking classes which we would of loved to of attended :-(( just not a enough time..

Delicious Indian food! We were treated so kindly by everyone and for every customer the lady, who is also the wife of the chef, took time to help us choose a dish.
At the end of the meal we had a chat with the chef who shared with us some tips to make their Indian tea or how to make coffee their way.
If you can, choose this restaurant and you won't regret it.

One of the best dining experiences I already had!
Very nice people, very thoughtful. For me, that don't know much about Indian food, it was a very nice experience, because they "teach" and suggest our dinner, and they do it very well!

Sehr nettes Personal, sehr guter Service und sehr leckeres Essen. Vielen Dank! Wir hatten Lust auf indisches Essen und haben uns durch die Google Restaurant Vorschläge beeinflussen lassen. Dabei wurden wir keinesfalls enttäuscht. Bedingt durch die derzeitige Nebensaison war das Lokal leer als wir ankamen. Wir hatten also freie Platzwahl und mussten nicht lange warten. Mango Lassi als kleiner Gruß aus der Küche zu Beginn. eine zusätzliche Vorspeise auf's Haus und eine einzigartige Hauptspeise begeisterten uns sehr. Wir können Masala Mantra auf jeden Fall empfehlen.

Echt heerlijk gegeten! Als ik 10 sterren kon geven had ik dat ook gedaan! Vriendelijke bediening en denkt met je mee. We hebben de chef ons menu laten samen stellen omdat we niet konden kiezen. Haha nou in 1 woord GEWELDIG!
Overigens volgens google zijn ze niet open op zaterdag en zondag dit is dus wel zo! Zat & Zon van 11:30 - 15:00
en van 18:00 - 22:00 uur.
ps. vraag naar de spinazie als voorgerecht. Deze staat niet op de kaart maar is zo lekker! Je likt je vingers er bij af!

Extremely attentive staff with great conversation! Food was so delicious! Staff will change your meal if you do not like it, whilst we did not have to do this because the food was delicious, I think its a great reason to go because the staff will cater to your needs! 10/10 recommend!

Very good and tastes like home made food. The lady is very nice, although she doesn't speak Portuguese she tries to explain ehat we're eating and she adjusts the food to our taste. Definitely recommend it

I’d been here once before and loved it! Tried to come back today to find that they’re closed on Tuesdays.

Food fantastic but owner would not leave us alone to enjoy our meal. He Went into great detail about all ingredients in meal , his whole life and how he had done Katy Perry's wedding in Dubia as well as all his cook schools. Would make me think before i went back. Shame as food is wonderful.

As usual, the meal was fantastic with a menu which is unseen in most Indian restaurants the dishes were made individually to suit the customer, the traditional Indian bread was out of this world.Not only was the food delicious but the hosts explained where everything came from, I was given a history lesson of Indian cuisine. This is one of the few restaurants which I hope will do well but I also hope they never become too busy so that I cannot get to a table.

Ok so the first review I've ever posted and unless something blows me away like this it will be the last. What an unexpected gem!
The best Indian I have ever had, we were looking for an Indian after a week of delicious Portuguese food and fancied a change.
The Chef will personally welcome you and recommend completely tailored dishes to your cuisine. We are an avid curry family who entered feeling like professionals and left blown away feeling like amateurs. The chefs and staff know their food back to front. They'll guide you the whole way, don't be scared to ask. Wow. Perfect. Currently ranked 2nd best restaurant in the algrave out of over 3000 for good reason. Loved it

Fantastic place with delicious and original Indian kitchen. The chef of the restaurant welcomed us personally and offered us his own variation of the dishes that we wanted to order. The meal was perfect, very aromatic and full of Indian spices. We got also the fig dessert on the house and it was also amazing - highly reccomended!
Sorry that we didnt leave the tip but we were on the way to the airport and we spent all Euros before.

É pena não poder coroar este restaurante com 10 estrelas, 5 pelo excelente atendimento, apesar de apenas falarem inglês, e outras 5 pela melhor comida indiana que já tive oportunidade de provar. Sem qualquer tipo de dúvida uma experiência gastronômica para relembrar, desde a comida personalizada sugerida pelo Chef, de verdadeira origem indiana, à simpatia da sua esposa e aos ensinamentos que recebemos sobre como disfrutar da comida através dos 5 sentidos ou às historias e cultura que partilharam conosco. Recomendo confiar na sugestão do chef pois irá confeccionar-lhe, na hora, um prato que o fará sentir transportado para a Índia.
Em suma, o melhor restaurante de gastronomia indiana do Algarve e arredores. Nas palavras da proprietaria " mais do que um restaurante, pretendemos oferecer uma experiência". Recomendo vivamente. Para repetir.

Came here because of reviews. Did not disappoint, everything was amazing. Will definitely be coming back before going home.
They made sure you were good at all times, not enough to spoil the meal. Suggested we do not get certain things as they are on the menu, as it would have been too peppery for my daughter. Greatly appreciated!

The naan with caraway seeds is out of this world - I'm half-Punjabi, and yet I've never tasted naan with this unique, light, ribbon-like texture - you have to try it.
This is not your formulaic curry house. Every dish was thoughtful, full of character, and damned tasty. Shall certainly revisit, next time I'm in the Algarve.

Lovely family run authentic Indian restaurant, everything freshly made. No westernised takeway food here!
The food here is amazing! The hosts are lovely, taking time to make you feel part of the family and making sure you're enjoying your food.
Nothing is too much trouble, the lovely lady even offered to take my 6 month old and entertain him so I could enjoy my meal.
Nothing is too much trouble here and I can't stress enough how amazing their food is! Brilliant!! Prices are reasonable also!
Literally 5 Stars all around!

If you think you've had real Indian cooking think again. This was a fantastic experience not just a celebrated birthday meal. This is a family run business that go to extremes to make sure you enjoy everything. I wish we had tried this at the start of our holiday and not at the end. If your in this area definitely go here. You will not be disappointed. Eg Have you ever tried a hot carrot pudding!!! It's fanfastic and there are other treats also. To quote the fantastic Indian hostess "Forget everything you ever thought you knew about Indian cooking". Very highly recommended!!!.

Had a fabulous family meal. Would recommend very highly. Very attentive hosts who went to great lengths to explain and recommend dishes. Leave your concepts of Indian dishes behind and experience a truly authentic Indian meal, handcooked from scratch. No ready made sauces here, each dish has its own unique flavour, blended with the a wide variety of Indian spices to perfection. A restaurant you definitely do not want to miss, and one well worth a little detour to get to.

Masala Mantra is one of the finest restaurants of Indian food in Portugal. I went to India one year ago, and I visited several great restaurants, and since then I became addicted to their culture and food. I can unsure in this restaurant you can have The Experience you have in India! We were a big group of people so I was able to taste various dishes, but the lamb was incredible!The flavours invade your mouth very smoothly! I also tasted the pork (spicy) and chicken (not spicy), and they were great too! You can ask for spicy or non-spicy food, when in doubt The chef Narayan Rao is always nice and helpful to clarify the differences between the dishes and spices. Is an incredible restaurant, you can't miss it! 5*

Just had a great meal at Masala Mantra, we don't live close but this is the kind of restaurant you don't mind driving for. Fresh and beautifully seasoned food and a warm welcome from the proprietors. They also offer cooking classes that sound wonderful.
