Delicious and well balanced food. A must if you want to try typical Portuguese food. The manager speaks fluent Spanish and made us feel welcomed. His recommendations where on point.

Good food and entertaining service but the extras mount up. Our bill for 2 came to nearly €100. My fault perhaps for not asking how much the cognac they offered would be!

A tuked away quaint place with amazing food. Plan on spending around 50€ for two. 100% worth it! Great service, clean, and they have a few tables for outside dining. Highly recommend.

Average food and friendly waiter, but overpriced - costs 80 euros for dinner for 2 wo. wine; imposed 8 euros for bread & olives that we did not ask for - that's the most we've seen in ALL of Europe! Their veal is NOT veal - it's regular, fatty steak.

Trato exquisito! Nos ha encantado, la comida muy rica, ensalada portuguesa con sardina y espárragos, bacalao con natas y arroz de pato. Todo increíblemente bueno, el arroz algo fuerte pero muy rico. Gracias a la lonely planet que lo recomendaba hemos venido. Sin duda vendría aquí de nuevo.

An ok place to dine since it’s open before dinner time... many other restaurants aren’t open until 7 pm. For the price the serving size could have been greater. Staff are ok.

We visited Tulhas as it was recommended to us. The food was fantastic but our waiter, Nelson, really made out dinner special. The next time we are in town, we will must go back to Tulhas!

What a fantastic little find in one of the narrow streets of Sintra! The interior was very cosy and inviting, filled with lots of Portuguese ceramic tiles.
We got the grilled Portuguese cod, and octopus and shrimp, both of which were very good and fresh. The vegetables on the side were cooked well but a little bland.
The waiter (Carlos) was friendly, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable regarding all the different wines and liqueurs they had.
Overall it was a great way to end our day trip to Sintra.

The service was terrible, the food mediocre and expensive, we had to wait for hours for the food and in the end after we complained, the waiter was even more rude. Do not go there!!

Perfect octopus!! Price was fine really centric...just remember they always charge the entrees even if u don't order them...but the same in every Portuguese restaurant! Honestly the food totally worth it!

Buena experiencia. Comida local elaborada con cariño. Lugar pequeño pero con encanto. Un buen servicio y muy atento. Carta pequeña, pero llena de sabor, suficiente para degustar platos locales. Recomendable el Bacalao Bras y el Arroz de Pato. Postres espectaculares. Precio adecuado teniendo en cuenta que Sintra es muy turístico. Sobre 40 euros dos personas entrante, plato principal y postre.

Siamo stati a cena in questo ristorante con il mio fidanzato in una fredda sera d’inverno.. proprietario e personale super gentilissimi..e lo sformato di baccalà,patate e formaggio era qualcosa di DIVINO..infatti per le due sere consecutive in cui abbiamo soggiornato a sintra siamo tornati sempre qui!! Prezzo super onesto.. consogliatissimo !

De los chicos que atendían uno hablaba francés y un buen español, quizás además inglés, asi que es recomendable para turistas.. la comida buena, no es tan rápido ni económico, pero el ambiente es grato y está más tranquilo que la zona más cercana al palacio

We were originally planning to eat at the restaurant next door, but they weren’t open for another hour so we went here. We weren’t disappointed one bit! Not only was the food delicious (black pork, fried sardines, soft cheese, wine), but the wait staff was hilarious and engaging. Our server convinced us to have a few aperitifs after we ate, and they were delicious! Skip the place upstairs, this is the spot in Sintra.

Memorable experience, solid food. The highlight of dinner was definitely the waiter/manager/sommelier/jack-of-all-trades Carlos, who is engaging and knowledgeable about all the food and wine they serve. He recommended a delicious vino Verde and a Portuguese cognac to finish the meal - very unique! The food itself was very good, especially the octopus, but otherwise not particularly memorable.

A very nice place with friendly staff and excellent food. Prices are slightly high, however considering the location and food quality, it is understandable. A full course meal will cost around €30 each.

Mixed grill was only grilled meat with chips and white rice. Wine was good. Very fast service, a bit like a tourist trap. In every restaurant you get bread, olives and butter,so if you don't want it, refuse it, cause it's not for free.:)

Booked a dinner for 8, got 2 separate tables for 4 (and even not next to each other). The food was also a very few portion and when asked for the potatoes included on the dish they said "we're out of potatos".

Accueil parfait, serveur génial, ambiance conviviale, de très bons aliments et en quantités et bon desserts.
Serveur multilingue et très professionnel, cuisine fait maison.
Penser à réserver tôt, beaucoup de monde.
2 marches a l'entrée, donc pas spécialement accessibles aux PMR, mais le serveur à l'habitude et nous vient en aide.

You should never go. The worst restaurant ever. Provide the worst meal in Portugal. It's a snatch. The clerk is lying with his eyes. Serving drinks in dirty glasses. If the customer is identified as Asian, they serve a meal that is too bad to eat and charge an exorbitant price.
The salad is dry with old vegetables. The meat is too hard to cut. Oily potatoes. Eating a bite made me feel sick. The worst restaurant that spoils the fun of coming to Sintra

A comida estava muito saborosa, ingredientes frescos, o atendimento por outro lado deixou muito a desejar sentamos do lado de fora e nos sentimos "esquecidos" ainda mais após esperar mais de 20 minutos para trazerem a conta (conta que fomos até o lado de dentro para tentar pagar, uma vez que tínhamos outro passeio agendado).

Atendimento com eficiência e simpatia. O restaurante é acolhedor com uma decoração retro. Entradas agradáveis e cozinha reconfortante. Gostámos da ligação da morcela com o abacaxi. Experimentámos o espadarte e o polvo com gambas, ambos acompanhados com batatinhas novas com pele, tiras de pimentos e legumes. Muito bom. Boa carta de vinhos a preços justos e sobremesas agradáveis e bem confeccionadas. Acompanhámos com um tinto da Bairrada, monocasta Baga de 2014, que nos sugeriram por ser adstringente e ligar bem com a ementa escolhida. Excelente sugestão. Tencionamos voltar.

Atendimento demorado, Sala cheia de fumo devido a exaustão ineficiente da cozinha. Comida normal,vendida a preços proibitivos com a chancela de "Portuguese traditional food". Enfim, uma maravilha para enganar os estrangeiros. Uma experiência a não repetir.

Nice place , good food but I have to say I was surprised with the bill, €122 euros for 4 of us (2 adults 1 teenager 1 child) for a normal meal. We explored all over Portugal and dined at excellent restaurants(we are Portuguese Americans by the way) and we never came close to that bill. We joked about it the whole trip. All in all good place but a bit spicey ( pricey) for what it is ....bom apitito !

Restaurante de culinária tradicional portuguesa em Sintra. O atendimento e preços são bons, boa opção para fugir dos lugares mais pega turista. A comida estava boa, excelente sardinha para a entrada e pratos principais ok, bons mas nada excepcional. O de melhoria importante: o ambiente fechado, pois vc saíra defumado e cheirando a comida.

A cosy restaurant serving delicious food with excellent service. The chocolate cake was one of the best we have had and it went incredibly well with the Late Bottle Vintage port. Definitely recommend it for dinner after a long day touring around Sintra!

Terrible service. The man working there today 3rd January at 4pm was extremely rude. He didnt greet us. He was shouting at other customers. It was loud and awkward.
We sat down and ordered dessert. We decided not to have a drink as we didn't feel welcomed. I asked for the bill and he shouted it is 5.50 euros.

Es un sitio agradable, bien atendido. Nos tocó un bacalao caro pero malo, cosa muy rara en Portugal. Pomposo nombre de "bacalao especial Cintra", era un trozo pequeño y fino de bacalao a la plancha, chamuscado con unas verduritas. Nada especial.
Bebidas muy caras.
Nos fuimos a finalizar postre y café a otro sitio.

Slightly expensive for what it offers, seafood risotto was okish, service was very slow. Biggest minus goes to the the bathroom which is dirty, smelly and the soap is in a water bottle with a hall in it and looks disgusting, which is disrespectful to customers.

Food was ok but staff was not. We asked cold sandwiches (4,50€), if you want to toast it 5,50€) and asked if we could get it cut to share. She accepted with a sour face. When we were already on our way back we realized we were charged 11€ instead of 9€! We would have prefered to do it with our own hands!! Very miserable

Aside from the slughish bad service, the restroom is disgusting and smells.
So with the number of guests in this place ( 2 other couples) Id say the wait is not worth the high rating! The waiters attitudes were if I enjoy this customer I'll spend 20 minutes giving land prices, wine education and so on to a them while the rest are desperately and rolling their eyes, this not smart service,u get a huge tip from some ehile loosing others..we ordered bread butter and olives for starter and soup, the butter never got to us! The bread was thrown on the table, the bread was cold and Im still waiting for that soup after 36min so far and remember the number of guests the hosted besides us ? 4...ok updates, never got my soup, and one of the waiters kept walking around asking guests if their food is ok, and I was still waiting for my soup...I felt a huge discrimination between us and those who ordered multiple dishes and bottle of drinks and this is not fair ...

This restaurant was our favorite in Sintra by far! Very cosy atmosphere. Very friendly and kind staff. Will be returning and would highly recommend to anyone. The blackened sausage and pineapple was a favorite as well as the sheep cheese and jam on bread. So delightful!

A beautiful small restaurant with quality food. What really makes this place stand out is the staff. The multilingual waiters are masters of their profession and will recommend the perfect meal and wine pairing to you, cater to your every need and entertain you with their vast knowledge and anecdotes. While other restaurants make you feel like "just another random tourist", at Tulhas you will be treated like a valued individual and even more so, like a friend.

Bon rapport qualité prix. Les sardines grillées étaient très bonnes même si elles auraient gagné à être vidées de leurs intestins et la salade en accompagnement n'était pas très intéressante (en plus d'être sans sauce). Enfin, la sangria ressemblait plutôt un soda...

원래 가려던 Romaria de Baco 가 사람이 많아 들르게 된 곳. 음식 하나와 와인 한잔을 먹었는데 맛은 무난했다. 하지만 계산할때 와인 한병 값으로 계산하여 주었고 항의하자 실수라고 웃어 넘겼다. 그리 바쁘지 않은 상황에서 한잔을 한병으로 틀렸다는 것이 이해가 힘들다.
Restaurant Romaria de Baco next to this place was full so I had a meal over here. Had one dish and a glass of wine. Taste was normal but they try to rip me by giving me a receipt with bottle of wine. Waiter tried to laugh it over once I complained saying it was a mistake. Place was not so crowded at the moment giving me wonders how he could make such mistake.

I very much like this restaurant. We ask our tour guide to take us to a restaurant that serve authentic Portuguese dishes.
We ordered five dishes from the Tapas section of the menu and everything was delicious. The portions were of good size. I never even made it to the Entree section of the menu (though I had an idea what I wanted).
The wait staff was friendly. It's location is on a side street. The restaurant is not that big and my guess is if we got there a bit later we would have waited to be seated

Porzioni generose ma non ho apprezzato i piatti, il mio era lo sformato di baccalà con formaggio e panna (pieno di aglio e quasi immangiabile) mentre il baccalà alla griglia della mia ragazza era discreto, abbondante ma anche senza particolari pregi. Come antipasto abbiamo condiviso il chorizo. Due bicchieri di vino e una bottiglia di acqua, 60 euro. Inoltre alla fine hanno anche aggiunto un caffè senza che nessuno l'avesse preso.

Todos los platos de bacalao consistían en bacalao desmigado acompañado con el mejunje que toque. Un horror que debería ser una vergüenza nacional para Portugal que presume de que se come bien en cualquier sitio y que nadie hace como ellos el bacalao

Me encantó, aunque la terracita pareciera estrecha la verdad es que la calle es tan tranquila que hace un ambiente verdaderamente íntimo y agradable, ya que no tienes mesas a tus lados da la sensación de estar cenando a solas en la calle con tu pareja, muy romántico. Luego la comida está esquisita, el bacalao a la portuguesa es a la brasa y cocinado a la perfección, y las aceitunas más bien aliñadas que he probado en Portugal. Los camareros son majísimos e incluso graciosos sin perder la clase, servicio maravilloso. Los precios por botella de vino son muy sensatos ¡y hasta el más barato de la carta está super rico! Lo único que hay que tener en cuenta es que en Portugal, cada cosa que te sirven te cobran, es lo normal alli. Así que hay que saber que si te ofrecen un licor, ¡no es una invitación eh! hehe

El lugar es muy agradable y el trato fue excelente. La comida es de gran calidad y dispone de suficiente variedad. Buenos vinos que se disfrutan aún más por el encanto de la zona. Los precios algo caros aunque acorde a los precios de Sintra.

A Sintra uno dei ristoranti più belli in assoluto....appena entro vieni accolto dai colori del locale e dalla familiarità con cui si presentano i camerieri... Mangiato I piatti tipici del ristorante come il riso d'anatra e il Baccalà con nata (panna). Quest'ultimo un po' nauseabondo solo per il fatto che l'aglio è veramente troppo presente.... Ah:provato anche il formaggio tipico con marmellata!!! Ottimi!! Un motivo in più per fermarsi a Sintra una notte in piu!!!

Great little restaurant, good service, good atmosphere and very good quality food. Tried a number of restaurants in Sintra, a number are quite touristy and not best quality, but this one was by far our favourite in Sintra centre. Really good food and menu, very friendly waiter service and gives you a chance for discussions that you cant have in some of the busier ones. In a quite little side street with some outside seating.

- They put bread + cheese and other spreads on the table and I thought they were complimentary. They're NOT, and quite pricey. I know this a common practice but I do not approve. They were really good, but because of this I won't put 5 stars
+ Dishes look inconspicuous but they're delicious. Would recommend the Porco a la regional.
+ Quick service, and the waiters were very nice (though maybe a bit overwhelming)
- Definetly pricey and tourist-oriented, you can spend up to 20 or 25 euros per person which is way more than average.

Tulhas is a refreshing change from the overload of tourist trap restaurants in Sintra! Located slightly out of the historical centre (by slightly I mean about 1-2 minutes walk), your efforts will most definitely be rewarded (if 2 minutes of stroll even requires any effort).
While I can't guarantee that this place serves the best Portugese food (since I've yet to try all restaurants in Portugal), I'm positive that the experience you get here is top class! And because dining isn't just about how great the food tastes (especially as different people have different palates), the enjoyment of the entire restaurant experience from the moment you enter till the instance when you leave is often of greater importance! But for what it's worth, I absolutely enjoyed the food as well and consider it amongst the best I've tried in Portugal.
More essentially, I felt at home immediately after stepping through their doors. The good people at Tulhas, Cardos Saraiva and his colleague (sorry I didn't get your name), went to great lengths to make me feel comfortable. They gave recommendations, explained the origins of the wine I was drinking, and shared their opinions and knowledge about everything under the sun from Portugese history to Mongolian empires. They also customise their service go each and every customer by attempting to say pleasantries such as "Enjoy your Meal" and "Thank You" in your native language. From what I could tell, they could pretty much manage every single language, seeing as how the diverse range of customers of different nationalities were all delighted by the suprising bonus.
I absolutely enjoyed my meal; way more than enough to have me coming back for a second dinner. If I ever visit Sintra again, this place would remain my top choice for dinner! Kudos to Cardos and the Tulhas team, and keep up the great job!

Restaurant atypique, decoration agréable. Petite salle qui ne désemplit pas, d'où pas mal d'attente. Plat du jour sardines grillées. Prix non affiché au tableau ou sur la carte. Surprise . Poisson à la pièce, prix 3,50 euros , soit 16 poissons pour 4, note a 56 euros + les boissons addition un peu salée pour des sardines .

Bottomline upfront: this place offers great family-like Portugese dishes in a very nice Portugese looking restaurant with excellent service.
My experience here was exceptional. This place feels cozy in a well cured sorta way. It feels traditional but not neglected. It offers great Portugese dishes which are served in a cordial and pleasant fashion. Service is prompt, the menu comes in multiple language and so did my waiter. These 5 stars are about my experience here and not about the fanciness or the whiteness of tablecloth.

We stopped by because of the great reviews online after walking through Sintra. Usually they are spot on but I am seriously questioning how in the world this place received positive reviews. We ordered tapas style food which took super long and tasted bad. The bread was dry and old, the cheese did not taste good at all and the olives were disgusting. We ended up oaying 32 Euros for food that tasted disgusting. The waiter was joking around but was borderline rude wirh his jokes. They have a great location but that is it. We will definitely not go back!

El trato es fantástico los camareros son muy agradables y te atienden en seguida, la comida excelente se nota que los productos son frescos y de calidad además de que ponen mucha cantidad de comida en el plato y con buena presentación.
No es barato pero la relación calidad-precio es muy buena, pagas por la calidad (precio de restaurante), aunque comparando con otros sitios turísticos de la zona es un pelín más barato.
Para la gente de España, tened en cuenta de que os cobrarán por el pan las aceitunas, mantecas y queso siempre los ponen a la mesa sin preguntar pero si no queréis que os lo cobren no los toquéis, demás de que os inflaran el precio con el IVA que no viene incluido en la carta.

Great ambiance. The waiters (Carlos and..?) are very welcoming and friendly. We came back the next day. Tasted a lot of wines and port wines and had great conversations with the waiters and other guests. Wonderful experience, great food and the best soft sheep cheese of Portugal.

The owner of the hotel is very friendly. He is very easy to talk to and we had some pleasant conversation. I even leaned how to cook octopus I the Portuguese way. The dishes are not the cheapest in town, but the quality is also better than a couple other ones we have visited. It's not the best we had in Portugal, but I would say not bad at all. So if you are looking for a proper meal, go for it. It's probably the best in town.

La comida está bastante bien, la atención es muy buena y aunque es verdad que te aplican después el IVA no es un precio disparatado. Como punto negativo el hecho de que te sirvan cosas de entrante (aceitunas, bolas de bacalao, etc...) sin que tu lo pidas para cobrartelas si las pruebas.... hay que decir que el camarero nos avisó que el lo tenía que servir y que si una vez en la mesa no lo queríamos, mandasemos retirarlas.

The food was quite good. Location, setting and ambience very nice as well. The only problem was that they charged us for several things that we didn't order (olives, bread, etc.). Thankfully we knew enough Portuguese to catch it on the receipt and they fixed the error, but it seemed that it was a trick/intentional, so beware.

El servicio no ha sido bueno: discusiones entre la cocina y el camarero. El espacio: oscuro y con mucho humo, ya que la cocina y el restaurante no están separados. La comida: mejorable, el pato con arroz no sabía bien. Además ponen platos de 'cortesía' que debes rechazar si no quieres q te cobren a 1,5€ la croqueta (que además no eran recién hechas).
Además el precio del menú viene sin iva por lo que la cuenta final es 'sorpresa'. Nada recomendable

Avoid this place. Worst disappointment of our holiday. After a 45 minute wait, the cod cream dish was impossible to chew; the waiter talked up the vegetarian dish and it turned out to be bland rice with overcooked, extremely bland vegetable mix. With a couple of sodas, this cost 41 euros!!!

Ci hanno abbindolato con prezzi in media, poi nessun prezzo x piatto del giorno (al conto scopriamo a 50 euro a coppia), antipasti con formaggio non richiesti pagati 5 euro a persona senza prima avvisarci. Pare sia successo anche ad altri avventori stranieri. Dopo le rimostranze, una cameriera voleva pure farci pagare di più! Girare alla larga, l'ospitalità portoghese qui non è onorata!

This is one of any number of tourist-catering "typical" restaurants in Sintra, all of which can be substituted for one another. I ordered the meat donut, which is probably an imprecise translation, but may be useful anyway for fellow North Americans who have never seen anything like this before. It's sort of like a Tim Horton's maple dip, except, you know, meat. It wasn't that good. Fortunately it was well-balanced with various sides, not unlike how one might balance a maple dip with a honey crueller and a Boston cream.

Essen war leider ziemlich geschmacklos, das enttäuschendste Essen in unserem Urlaub. Es wurde ohne Bestellung Brot und Oliven auf den Tisch gestellt, die später auf der Rechnung landeten (wurde nach Beanstandung aber korrigiert, da wir nichts davon gegessen hatten). Service dafür sehr nett und die Lage ganz idyllisch. Insgesamt nur bedingt empfehlenswert.

Great food, very tasty. Service was friendly, we were served by Antonio, one of the owners. His recommendations were impeccable. A little restaurant that makes you feel at home with delicious all around cuisine. Suggestions: mixed fish grill (a very generous portion of the different types of fish, careful it's big and is typically ordered for two people) and for those with a sweet tooth...chocolate mousse.

The service was great. This is a very small restaurant so reservation would be a good idea. The cheese and wine was good but the main entree food was only OK.

Quando às 11h55m os empregados conversam animadamente, com o restaurante aberto, e vêm um casal chegar com um bebé, ao serem questionados se é demasiado cedo para almoçar ,respondem "voltem dentro de 15m.", devo deduzir que a sensibilidade e a vontade de ganhar clientes não é a maior. Tenho pena, há alguns meses atrás, de 4 refeições em Sintra, 3 foram neste restaurante. Hoje às 11h58m estava a almoçar esplendidamente no Tacho Real. Fica à atenção do dono e dos possíveis casais com crianças.

Quite restaurant, average to good food, spoke English very well, very friendly staff, overall pretty pleasant.
