Welcome to Cascais, Portugal. If I was forced to choose, Lisbon will win out every time. However, only a little over an hour west of Lisbon, that makes this charming beach town the perfect side trip. Part of the Portuguese Riviera, it hosts cute little beaches and a busy marina. Many royal families have called the seaside town their home, including the Kings of the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy. Cascais apparently is one of the wealthiest municipalities in Portugal, hosting some of the most expensive real estate markets in the country, and has the added bonus of being ranked highly for its quality of life. While I can say I wasn’t awe struck and blown away by the sheer number of attractions, the miniature scale of things helps add its calming effect. If the Lisbon crowds and bustling traffic gets to you, then this place might be just the ticket. One of my favourite spots has to be the main square “Paços do Conselho”, complete with a striking statue of King Peter I. Classic Portuguese cascading black and white tiles line the main square, surrounded by wonderful weathered pastel facades.

Praça bem bonita, harmoniosamente fazendo as vezes de uma das portas de entrada da cidade, assim como está inserida em frente ao mar na Baía de Cascais, com vários prédios históricos ao redor.
