A nice place to chill and while away the day. Good food, good range of wines, attentive staff. Place seems to be usually empty, both inside the restaurant and outside on the square. The exploding olives on the menu were superb and really does explode. The hazelnut dessert on the other hand, will not change your life.

Lidt skuffet. Havde forventet mere på en af José Avillez restauranter. Betjening venlig og høflig, men også lidt fraværende ind imellem. Synes både min forret og hovedret manglede tilsmagning. De skal dog roses for ikke at have oversaltet maden, som de gør så mange andre steder i denne by.

Buen servicio en un café tipo vienés, con el encanto de estar situado en un teatro de ópera con mucha intrahistoria. No entro a valorar al chef que es muy conocido y premiado, valoro solamente lo que comimos, y el resultado fue sorprendente a un precio muy moderado. La carta es corta, como debe ser, la de vinos la justa. Una isla de tranquilidad en el Chiado. Chapeau.

One of the best restaurants in Chiado. If you are looking for something traditional and classic this is the spot to go. You can try traditional portuguese cuisine with a touch of sophistication. Located in one of the most beautiful squares in Lisbon, Largo São Carlos, this place is very cosy. The staff is very helpful and kind. It's a romantic spot. Must go!!

The quality of food is fantastic with good service provided. We have been here for 3 times in the trip and try almost all the food listed in the menu. Good experience and worth visiting.

Oh My God, what a memorable meal we had at Café Lisboa ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
We were making our way around the busy city streets, confused and disoriented from all the people, and suddenly started following the sound of someone singing opera.
We were tired and decided to sit at the first cafe we found, and lucky for us, it was one of José Avillez’s restaurants!
The restaurant is situated in a quiet square just under a concert hall that seems to be invisible to many tourists, letting you enjoy a beer and lunch in peace .
The food was carefully crafted that even a person who doesn’t eat seafood would delight! My husband particularly enjoyed the exploding olives that came with the shredded cod (which tasted like the best cod I’d ever had) and the octopus tartare (the dish presentation alone opens your appetite even more!) .
Please go there if you haven’t yet, and go there again if you have!

Ein Sprichwort sagt: Alle guten Dinge sind drei! Wir waren dreimal in dem Restaurant und machten nicht nur unterschiedliche Erfahrungen mit dem Personal, sondern erlebten auch eine sehr unterschiedliche Qualität der Zubereitung. Unsere Kriterien lauten: gutes Essen, gute Atmosphäre und ein entsprechendes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Der Betreiber hat einen guten Ruf, so dass man schon davon ausgehen kann, eine entsprechende Gegenleistung zu bekommen. Unser letzter Besuch hat uns zu diesem Kommentar veranlasst. Wir kamen am Abend zu zweit und da alles ausgebucht war, wurde uns ein Tisch im Haus angeboten. Auf die Frage nach einem Tisch abseits wurde uns mitgeteilt, alle Tische seien reserviert. Im Laufe des Abends stellte sich raus, niemand kam und alles blieb frei. Wir saßen direkt am Gang zum Tresen. In der Theaterpause drängten sich die Pausengäste um unseren Tisch. Sehr unangenehm! Die Vorspeisen waren sehr lieblos auf dem Teller drapiert. Geschmacklich wahrlich nicht der große Renner. Ein Hauptgericht war ein Steak mit Pilzen. Dieses wurde leicht angebraten und dann kalt serviert. Die Reklamation wurde entgegen genommen und man entschuldigte sich höflich. Nach längerer Zeit kam ein wirklich gut gemachtes Steak. Alles zusammen genommen, nur 2 Sterne! Da wir häufiger in Lissabon sind, werden wir dieses Restaurant meiden. Denn auch unseren ersten beiden Besuche waren nicht so wie man vielleicht bei diesem Namen erwarten könnte. Schade!

we were yesterday night . good wine . chef soup very good . Octapod starter too much creamy so you don't really taste octapod. salad with too much vineager. and meat not good at all !!! no taste and not coom medium as asked but too much cooked. good service but very expensive for lisboa.

Nice location and outside seating. The soup is divine!!! The pasteis de Nata was the best we had. We even ordered extra.

Muy buen sitio, esta un poco escondido pero muy bien situado.
Todo lo que cominos estaba estupendo, pero sobre todo el bacalao.

Não é propriamente fácil hoje em dia encontrar uma mesa livre num dos restaurantes do Chef Avillez num sexta feira à noite sem ter feito a prévia reserva. O Café Lisboa acolheu-nos da chuva sem hesitar. Avisou-nos que se tratava de um dia de Ópera e apesar de quase completos uma mesa livre ao canto foi o nosso Porto seguro nos 25 minutos do intervalo da ópera. As pessoas fazem educadamente fila ao balcão para vinho, água e espumantes. A nossa comida foi chegando sem a interrupção da azáfama. Primeiro a sopa alentejana com caldo de bacalhau e lascas bem suculentas. Salada de Quinoa. Uma presença forte de amêndoas tostadas mas tudo o resto perfeito. Por último gelado de avelã. O Gelato nocciola e uma combinação de 3 formatos de avelã, ralada, em espuma e em gelado com pitadas de flor de sal. A sugestão do madeira reserva acompanha o gelado. Escusado será dizer que o Chef Avillez tem também a mestria do gelato.

Le Café Lisboa est un havre de paix en plein coeur du Chiado et de sa frénésie commerçante. Situé dans le même édifice que le Théatre National de São Carlos, le Café Lisboa bénéficie d'une terrasse couverte et chauffée en hiver. Le service est soigné et les plats délicatement présentés. Je recommande vivement la salade de quinoa aux légumes grillés qui saura ravir le palais de tout végétarien.

A totally mediocre experience that succeeded in emptying our wallets while leaving our stomachs only half full. Although Chef Jose Avillez has plastered his name all over the place, he appears to have devoted more time to self-promotion than to the menu. Two separate seafood mains were largely indistinguishable, both featuring stingy portions of fish on top of a bland potato puree. Starters were a bit better - a small meat pie and a bowl of broad beans atop an odd but edible puree of blood sausage and more broad beans.
They earned their three stars largely on the basis of a friendly staff, good drink selection, and a pleasant decor, and the fact that none of the items we ordered were altogether bad - just bland, tiny and overpriced.
Also, they charge €2.75 per person for a meager bowl of bread and a few slices of cheese.

Notre premier dîner sur Lisboa, et une explosion de papilles. Nous y sommes arrivé après avoir trouvé porte close sur notre première destination et se fut mille fois sans regret. Sur une place au cœur de Lisbonne avec un personnel accueillant et attentionné. Les plats étaient juste magnifiquement bons. Après coup nous avons appris que le chef était l'un des meilleurs actuellement sur Lisbonne......

Ottimo il servizio, ottima la location vicinissima a Largo do CHIADO. l'ho scoperto cercando il Belcanto che ho trovato chiuso, così mi sono incuriosito e devo riconoscere che è stata una bellissima scoperta. Un bacalhau a braz veramente inaspettato, buonissimo insieme a tutto il resto. Da consigliare a tutti.

Don't really understand how this place had high ratings. Worst meal I had within this price range in Portugal. Had the grilled tuna which is bland and tasteless. The garlic shrimp is the worst I have had. Just some shrimp boiled in olive oil without any garlic flavor at all. Staffs are nice.

O Café Lisboa fica dentro do Teatro Nacional São Carlos e conta com acesso direto e com mesas internas e externas junto ao Largo. Por ser muito pequeno é recomendável fazer reserva. O atendimento é bastante cordial e a comida excelente, baseada, principalmente, nos pratos tradicionais portugueses. Todos os pratos que chegaram à mesa foram elogiados, com destaque para o Bacalhau à Brás com “Azeitonas Explosivas”, que possui um sabor suave que não encontramos em outros preparos deste prato típico e a gostosa surpresa de sabor das "Azeitonas Explosivas", a Farinheira Frita com Ovo BT, que estava muito bem temperada e fazia uma excelente combinação de sabores e a Torta de Laranja com Sorvete de Laranja, que estava excepcional, muita úmida e com uma doçura suave e muito próxima da fruta, faz jus à excelente laranja que se colhe em Portugal. O menu e os preços estão disponíveis no site do Café Lisboa e a relação custo benefício é boa considerando a qualidade da comida.

Pertencendo a um grupo de restaurantes do Chef. José Avilez, diria que este é provavelmente o meu preferido. Almoço durante a semana com menu executivo muito recomendado para experimentar as variadas especialidades da carta. Recomendaria o jantar para uma degustação mais tranquila acompanhado por um vinho JA. Ambiente acolhedor e comida muito bem confeccionada. Highly recommended.

Food was mediocre. The bacalhau with olives was under-seasoned and had obviously been sitting under a warming lite for a long time. I don't usually write reviews but this place was so hyped and pricey, yet so unimpressive, felt that I had to say something.

Quality food into a nice location ! Located into the 'Teatro Nacional de São Carlos', Café Lisboa is a restaurant of José Avillez, famous portuguese chef. I was actually going to 'Cantinho do Avillez', another of his restaurant without reservation and I couldn't get a table so the waiter reffered me to 'Café Lisboa' who turns out to be a great suggestion. Was seated outside on the terrasse, friendly waiter, good service, food was so good and delicious, wine too. I really enjoy the food and as well the beautiful location in Old Lisbon. With friends or with your partner, you will have a great time + good food.
