My friends and I engaged Portugal Trails to plan our 10 days road trip in Portugal. The level of services provided by Mariana and the team were excellent and of very high standards. Despite numerous changes and multiple churns on our itinerary, Mariana remained professional and patient at all times. We used the Helpline a few times and all the operators were friendly, spoke excellent English and answered our questions promptly and effectively. All the accommodation recommended and chosen by PT were of high quality and come with good breakfasts. Portugal Trails' freed us from having to spend time and headache of researching places to visit, places to stay/eat etc and packaged everything in a nice 130 page Roadbook. We had a great time on our road trip and our Camino walk in Portugal.

They did a great job organizing our trip! They did a great job working with my itinerary suggestions, even after several edit requests. This is my first time using a tour operator. I usually travel through hostiles and Airbnb, but this was a wonderful experience. Must sees are Sintra, Lagos, and Évora. I had us pack it into 1 week, and I would definitely do 2 next time for that much travel. Gonçalo was fast to reply, and their help numbers are extremely easy to use and they were able to help us 2 separate times throughout the trip when we experience a hiccup. Would recommend!

Best Way To Tour Portugal We were absolutely blown away by Portugal Trails. From the moment we initially contacted them a year before we travelled until we were dropped off at the Lisbon Airport to return home the service was beyond extraordinary. Any email contact was responded to within 24 hours. The help line as we travelled was excellent, reassuring and accurate. For someone planning on a self drive vacation Portugal Trails handles all the big details from rental car with pre-programmed GPS, hotel accommodations, some meals and tours as well as additional recommendations for other activities. The hotels were all first class and each a little different and unique from the others. We had a traditional "old school" hotel in Lisbon and a very hip, modern accommodation in Porto and several iterations in between. The tour guides and tours that Portugal Trails arranged for us were superb. We learned so much about the locale, the guide and whatever the focus was such as Portuguese port production. We had a cooking class in Evora which was so much fun, especially for a couple that doesn't really cook. Just a couple of examples of the type of experience one can expect. The nicest part was we weren't tied to a schedule or the need to meet a bus, wait for everyone to arrive, jostle for seats and the other inconveniences associated with a bus tour. Driving in Portugal was very easy and safe. The drivers are courteous and the roads fantastic. There was not one aspect of our trip we didn't thoroughly enjoy. We met several couples as we travelled and they had the same praise for Portugal Trails. I recommend them without hesitation.

We booked a 2 week tour of Portugal from Lisbon to Porto and Portugal Trails did a great job of taking care of all of the details. They arranged for city tour guides in Lisbon and Coimbra and Porto, rental cars with pre-programmed GPS, great hotels, a private boat ride on the Duoro River, and transfers to/from the airport including a 3am pick-up for our departing flight!. Our trip planner, Mariana, was very responsive to our requests and customized the itinerary in response to our special requests. I would definitely recommend Portugal Trails (and already have) to friends and family.

I have been planning all my self-drive holidays. In my research, i stumbled upon PT. They were responsive & customized our tour to the tee. Portugal trails arranged a great trip for us! This was our first trip with our eight month old and Portugal trails made sure everything was catered to our needs based on that. We had private guides who made sure we got breaks when needed, they made sure all our drivers had car seats with them and they were able to arrange babysitters for us a couple of nights so we could go to nice dinners. Everything ran very smoothly and they made a trip for us with a great balance of sightseeing and relaxation!

Portugal/Spain Trails offers several pre-planned itineraries as well as customized excursions. We chose to do a customized version, which they quickly designed for us and quoted us with a price within 48 hours. The quality of rooms and they're locations were superb, as well as the tours that they booked for us. We continuously heard from their tour suppliers and hotels how they were one of the best travel agencies to work with and it showed in the way we were treated at the hotels and tours. From the first time I called Ines, they were very prompt in getting back to me with info or returning my calls. We have done other driving tours before and this is definitely a good one. We will book another trip with them to Portugal soon.

Portugal Trails is a brilliant concept which is extremely well executed. My husband and I used them to plan a driving trip through Portugal and southern Spain. We flew into Lisbon, got our car at the end of the Lisbon stay and then drove to Porto, through the Duoro valley to Madrid, then to Toledo, Granada, Cordoba and Seville and back into Portugal to Evora and then flew back out of Lisbon. A 15 day trip that was planned by them with our input. We told them the kinds of hotels we wanted, the sizes of the rooms, the type of car and the places we wanted to visit and they listened and planned it all - sent us itineraries to review and booked everything. Their value added is great and the pricing was extremely fair compared to other kinds of similar tours that are available. While traveling there is a Helpline from 8 am to 10 pm every day where English speakers listen and respond to issues while on the road. There were things that we wished to change as we went along and it was all taken care of. I would highly recommend this company for anyone who likes to travel alone by car but would like to have it organized and booked ahead of time. When you arrive, you are met by a driver who presents you with a roadbook that has step by step of what you are doing and where and how and suggestions of what to see and where to eat and how to go. A first class experience.

Perfectly Planned Portugal! Every aspect of our pre-trip communication, planning and the incredible two week vacation we spent in Portugal with PortugalTrails turned out well. Working with Christina Chagas, we developed an itinerary that took us counter clockwise around the country. We enjoyed 2300 kilometers of well organized driving using the guidebook & pre-programmed GPS - after 3 days in Lisbon, we picked up our Eurocar rental and drove to Sagres, Evora, Belmonte, Pinhao, Porto, Obidos, then dropped our car & departed from Cascais. We experienced an incredible variety of landscape, sightseeing, history, hotels and restaurants. All of the hotels were outstanding, (including pousadas in a former convent, a monastery and the castle at Obidos). The hotels in Lisbon, Porto & Cascais were perfect, right in the midst of things, walkable to everything. Service personnel was exceptional in all hotels. Our walking tours in Lisbon and Porto were engaging and informative, and we really enjoyed the boat trip on the Douro while in Pinhao. I would highly recommend PortugalTrails to any independent travellers who want to cut down on their internet research by putting the logistics in the hands of this professional, service oriented company

I traveled to Portugal with my grandmother during the fall of 2016. We used Portugal Trails to guide our trip. It was a phenomenal experience. It removed the guessing work and the timely research out of the equation and really allowed us to enjoy our trip. We got back from our wonderful Self-Drive tour of Portugal and the Azores. This was arranged via email from Canada to Portugal and we used Joana Cambeiro. I would give it 10 stars if that was possible. From the beginning to the end, it was a wonderful experience. What a wonderful way to travel - being provided with a turn by turn GPS in our car rental, knowing that if we had any issues, they were just a phone call away. Portugal trails arranged all our hotels, which were Pousadas, and several side trips along the way. Everything was 'done to the 9's' on this trip. I can't say enough about this company. Portugal Trails. We recently completed a 6-week, 5000 kilometre road trip through Portugal and western Spain. We had a fantastic trip and are very impressed with Portugal Trails who planned the trip for us. The arrangements were flawless, a real accomplishment for such a long and complicated trip. My experience in organizing a 5 week trip to Portugal was excellent. The proposals made were just what we were looking for and any adjustments were spot on. The cost of our proposed trip were what we were hoping to experience. Unfortunately for health reasons we were forced to postpone our trip. The full cost of our Portugal itinerary was refunded to us as stated in their policy. We will rebook our trip and recommend Portugal Trails highly.

Portugal Trails Review Advice from your best friend living in Portugal. Cannot take the stricture of a tours, but want some structure and advice, Portugal Trails is for you. This is our second time using Portugal Trails. They plan an customized itinerary, rent you a car, give you a GPS, book your hotels, and turn you loose. It is like having a friend who lives in Portugal to tell you where to go. We have used them twice. In 2011, we travelled from Lisbon north to Sintra, Guillarmes, Porto and other points north. This summer, we traveled south from Lisbon to Lagos, Tavira, Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Evora, and back to Lisbon. At each stop our hotel was booked and waiting. There was also advice on what to see and where to eat. In many places they had booked a special event. Best of all, they were always available by phone to answer questions. They also provide transportation to and from the airport. All the hotels are very nice and most are quite wonderful. We love the Hotel Britannia at Rua Sampaio, 17, 1150-278 in Lisbon, a lovely Art Deco gem in the middle of town. In Lisbon, Portugal Trails also provides a personal tour with informative guides. We were directed to great restaurants as well. We picked up our car and travelled to the Algarve to Lagos where we had a wonderful boat tour and relaxed on secluded beaches. We were directed to a wonderful seafood restaurant, Casinha do Petisco. We the went to the small town of Sagres where we watched the sun set over the Atlantic from the western most point in Europe from the Sagres Fortress. From Sagres we travelled to Tavira where we had the best grilled fish and one of the best meals we have ever eaten at the Restaurant Tres Palmeiras.. This small town was a treat that we would have missed without Portugal Trails. We stayed in the Pousada De Tavira. It was our second time in the pousadas. They are luxurious and beautiful. Just walking the halls is worth the visit. From Tavira, we went to Seville, Spain. We stayed in the Hotel Becquer in the middle of town. It was a great hotel and walking distance from everything. From there we went to Granada. We stayed in another great centrally locate hotel, Hotel Casa in an old medieval house. They offered free breakfast and an excellent tea at 4:30 pm in a lovely central court with a soothing fountain. From there we went to Granada which we really enjoyed. But the highlight was the next leg of the journey. On our way back to Portugal we stopped at the Herade do Esporao Winery. The winery is set on an estate that has been in existence since 1267. Portugal Trails booked us a lunch and a tour. It was memorable. The wines are our new favorites. We look forward to drinking them for years to come. We spent the night in Evora. It is a small town but contains more than its share of history, starting at the Neolithic Period to the Romans, to the Moors, to the Christian era. We stayed in a beautiful modern hotel, Hotel M’ar De Ar Agueduto. It sits along side a Roman aquaduct that we photographed from our window. Unfortunately, we then returned to Lisbon and took a flight home the next day. We will be back.
