I have been all my life scared of riding a horse!
Miguel helped me to overcome this fear by creating a nice connection with the horse.
It's not my thing horse riding but I will always be grateful to be able now to stay close to an horse.
By the way, I am still going every week :-)

Do not pay good money for elderly horses to be abused.
I have been living in Cascais for 6 months and have been going to a Hipco riding school three + times per week for lessons. But I wanted to try Miguel’s school as he told me he did daily ride outs for two hours cross country and to the beaches which I really missed doing back home in Ireland.
This is not what happened. I was given the oldest and stiffest horse I’ve ever seen. It took at least 40mins for his joints to loosen up just to be comfortable in walk. The cross county was a very rockey, bushy path around the hotel grounds, peering into private accommodation. Nothing cross country about it. Then we got back to the arena and Miguel sat back and had the chat with his friend and left me to “play” around the area with about 20 other riders practicing their jumping. Taurus was too stiff and old for me to feel safe on. I spoke to Miguel after the lesson about my issues with this horse and he showed me a smaller mare which he said was a pro in jumping and dressage. So then I paid for the package of 4 rides for €100 and I was promised that particular mare for the remaining 3 lessons.
The second ride was a joke. The girl who was supposed to come out with me was not ready at all, she gave me the same old horse again while she rode the horse I was promised by the owner. The entire lesson was her telling me all about her dressage competitions, and riding history. She failed to ask me anything about my experience, or if I had ever been on a horse before. About 15 minutes in she realized she had put both her saddle and mine on wrong. We walked back to the stables to fix them and then went to an arena. However, I had all the same issues with Taurus as the last time. Too stiff and too tall for me to feel comfortable or safe. My “teacher” told me to ignore everything she was doing and just stick to the wall and do my own thing, as she was practicing for her competition coming up that weekend. When I told her I couldn’t get the horse up into canter, she tried charging up behind me shouting trying to spook my horse into canter. I felt very unsafe as Taurus is a giant, so a fall was out of the question. Then she showed me how easy it was for her horse to transition from walk to canter but that my horse needs to be in a fast trot, to be able. But I found his trot very stiff and rigid, so didn’t feel safe going faster to get a canter. I asked to switch horses, as she told how she rode Taurus that week and that he was “perfect” with her. Alas no, she says to me “No, I have to practice for my competition this weekend”. This is when I decided enough was enough. I had been there well over an hour and was fed up. From the lesson starting 20mins late, given the wrong horse, saddle put on wrong, my teacher non stop talking about herself, trying to spook my horse and then to tell me I am paying for her dressage practice? I decided to just leave it there as talk to Miguel. We walked back and I left. I sent Miguel a message with all my concerns but he has not responded. That was 10 days ago. I still have €50 left on my card but I still can’t get a response Miguel. Don’t go here, it’s clearly a money racket for tourists who wouldn’t know they’re being ripped off.

Had a few great lessons with Miguel during the holidays. He tries really hard to get you to improve your riding & keeps pushing you until you get there. His horse Cockpit is amazing!
