Beautiful views from our balcony ... adjacent to the forest. We checked in late so did not spend much time. The staff was friendly despite the late hour. They had a coloring book and small chair on the balcony for our son. Breakfast was delicious, the only challenge of our stay was that parking was difficult in the town... one way streets and some roads were closed due to summer fires.

Positives:
The location is great. If you are looking to visit many castles in Sintra, this is a great hotel to consider. Breakfast was nice too. Fresh food throughout, it was a pleasant experience overall. Bathroom was clean enough.
Negatives:
This is not by majority standards, a 5 star hotel. It is not even a 4 star. It feels like more a glorified 3-star. So do keep that in mind when booking.

Wow - a beautiful hotel in a stunning location in the heart of Sintra. Couldnt have been happier with this accommodation. The room was gorgeous, the view was spectacular, and the hotel itself was like staying in a classic villa. Would highly recommend.

Overall a decent stay. I’d say 5 stars for history and views, and the suite was spacious. However, probably more like 3-4 stars for the rest. Many of furnishings are well past their best. Antique look and feel is great, but much of it is done. Having a stained sofa with a ripped arm and stuffing jutting out isn’t really on. Random fridge in the corner introduced as a minibar, but was empty. One of the girls on reception was really nice and accommodating but the rest of the staff didn’t make much of an effort to make you feel welcome. And the breakfast was average. If you get a good price go for it, but adjust expectations from the 5 star label.

La bebida tuvimos que reclamarla hasta tres veces porque el camarero estaba más pendiente de "ligar" con unas clientas que de atender el servicio

El servicio de la terraza malísimo, tardan en atenderte 20 minutos, pides un café y te lo traen al día siguiente. No os paréis a tomar café.

Our stay was great. Our only complaint was that we didnt stay for more nights. My wife had a training class at the Ritz in Sintra, so we added a night to that stay and only stayed one night in old Sintra. As soon as we got there and saw our room, we tried calling to cancel our extra night, but could not.The Lawrence is beautiful, with great views of the park. Its a 2-3 minute walk to the main square of historic Sintra, the Palacio, and the bus stops. There are lots of great restaurants all around (Tulhas is really close, with great staff and great food!). They only have 16 rooms, so they have names instead of numbers. We stayed in William Beckford and it was fantastic. The staff was incredible and very friendly. The included breakfast was also great and plenty of food.If you plan to see the Pena Palace or Moorish Castle (and are in decent shape), you dont have to wait for the bus. There are two walking paths up the hill. Both will take about an hour to get up to the Moorish castle though, uphill the whole way. So be prepared. The bus will take 30 minutes or so, because of the way they have to go to get there, and sometimes not everyone gets on, as they fill up.

Adoro este Hotel! O meu marido e eu já ficámos aqui hospedados por duas vezes, apesar de morarmos a 15 km de distância. Tudo é lindo e mágico, desde os quatros às salas, transportando-nos para o imaginário mundo do livro de Eça de Queiroz os Maias! Por tudo isso foi escolhido para aí festejarmos o 1° aniversário e batismo da minha neta Laura. Cinco estrelas em tudo, comida, serviço de mesa, e simpatia no atendimento. Escolhemos para decoração a historia da Bela e o Monstro que esteve a cargo da empresa Lima Limão. Foi um sucesso! Oportunamente enviarei mais fotos. Bem hajam Maria Dos Prazeres.

Very nostalgic place with village charm. It's like a village Inn to stay in Sintra, it added charm in my trip. But it's does not really have 5-start standard. Very good location. However, don't stay more than1 day. I stayed 3 days, I received welcome the first day, but I felt cold and bad manners in the rest 2 days. I said hello to every staff I met, and I had wonderful chats with a couple of them. But the last 2 days, the receptionist and the waitress in the restaurant did not even hello back, how rude! That made me feel very bad and I did not enjoy my trip. Things like this definitely affect your mood and trip. I think there are 3 reasons: 1. I got a good deal online for the hotel room. Of course the hotel owners wants more expensive fee for new guests. 2. I did not have dinner in the fancy restaurant. 3. When I checked in, it's almost empty, so I had choice to choose a room. A new guest might have to pay much more for this room. But by no means I should be treated with such attitudes because I got a good deal and I stayed 3 days--considering that I paid for the deal they offered. It's completely ridiculous and absurd. Yes, it's a snobbish and an awkward hotel with strange service. The owner really does not know how to run a historical heritage hotel. What a pity. DON'T recommend.

We had an amazing time at the Lawrence. If I could use one word to describe the hotel it would be charming. I was also pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the bed. Lastly, the service was great: Joanna was particularly helpful.

O hotel em si é espectacular. As salas são lindissimas! No entanto, acho que os quartos precisavam de alguma remodelação (entretanto não sei se já o fizeram). Não tem estacionamento, o que é uma chatice, mas a maior parte dos hoteis em Sintra não tem.

Absolutely loved our recent three night stay at the wonderful Hotel Lawrence. Professional, courteous, attentive staff at the reception area and in the restaurant. Great buffet breakfast each morning. The hotel is situated a few minutes walk from the centre of town, so is an absolute haven for getting away from, the often busy city center. At the last minute we chose to cancel our car hire, so whilst waiting in the departure lounge for our flight to Lisbon, we phoned the hotel and spoke to Carlos the hotel manager, who quickly arranged for an airport transfer service for us, letting us know exactly where to meet our driver on arrival. The food we had in the restaurant at the hotel was the best food we had during our time in Sintra.

This WAS A 5-star hotel when first opened, a long time ago. In that regard this is a curiosity hotel, quaint, romantic spot. Staff members are helpful and friendly. However make no mistake, the hotel is intentionally kept old and 5-star amenities are nowhere to be found. The hotel would not qualify for it's eating today, and therefore I tank with 2 to hopefully balance things out a little - future guests should have a fair chance and know what to expect.

The hotel is located in a place with balconies facing the forest. This make it special by itself. Add to it the ancient building with knight Style, furniture, pictures and even the service you get from the staff.
It is not a regular 5 stars hotel, but it deserves the 5 stars just for the location and attitude.

Sintra was beautiful and its a quaint, historical hotel which is why we stayed. The views were amazing and food was great. Unfortunately, our shower didnt work at all and the double bed was actually two singles pushed together. Not what was requested. The room, especially bathroom, is in need of major renovations to match a five star rating. Id only expect a shower not to work in a three star hotel and it had a three star bathroom at the most. Id return but having stayed in mostly five star hotels around the world, this doesnt match the quality overall.

I just want to thank the guy in the reception who saved our life, we were on a visit to the Pena palace and on our way our car has broke down it was almost night, he called the mechanic company and did all the follow up with them via phone...they arrived from lisboa 40km far from sintra to pick the car and repair it. Really appreciated .

Lord Byron did NOT mislead us. This place is a renaissance gem in the heart of Sintra. Large elegant suites with very comfortable beds, with private balconies featuring breathtaking private views of the untrampled Forest within the city surrounding the castle. Stay here!

El servicio de restaurante pésimo. Estaba prácticamente vacío y tardaron mas de una hora en traer una ensalada según ellos porque habían 2 mesas grandes, éramos tres personas y nos sirvieron en distintos tiempos. Las ensaladas muy pequeñas para el precio que piden.
No recomiendo nada este lugar. Aunque hay que decir que el salmón que pedimos estaba bueno.

Location was amazing, historic hotel with atmosphere but room needs updating, bathroom faucets did not work properly, had to ask for hotter water, digital safe malfunctioned with our passports inside.Staff was very helpful especially Vasco Petrony who never gave up on opening the safe. Book parking if you have a car.

We did not stay in the hotel, but had lunch for a group of 60 people. Food was good, the attention was excellent and the atmosphere was fantastic. We enjoyed very much our time there and I highly recomend it.

Excellent location and extremely charming hotel full of character that is a great choice if you are into history/literature, fit, and able to navigate somewhat steep hills and cobblestones. Lovely breakfast included with our room rate. Nice dinner service, too, which was surprising for the size of the hotel and a great option if you arrive later in the evening and dont want to venture out.

I cannot say enough good things about Lawrence Hotel and Sintra. Both are perfect. Lawrence is full of history, welcoming, clean, and stately. Our room was amazing and even had a lovely little balcony to enjoy. I can’t wait to return!

Lovely old hotel close to the heart of Sinatra. Our fifth floor room was very comfortable and afforded a glimpse of the moorish castle from the balcony. The staff were very pleasant, especially the young woman working behind the bar. We got lucky with parking; don’t forget to ask for a parking reservation if you’re coming by car.

Quaint little hotel, right in the middle of Sintra. top notch service all around! We had a great dinner there without knowing that the breakfast was full blown everything... this is the place to be if you go to Sintra... middle of the town, with great views from the rooms or from the restaurant... if you want a bit of quiet moment you can sit in one of the “secluded” rooms or on the balcony... if you can fit through the tiny door leading to the balcony :)

Not easy to find, but one of the greatest small hotels in Europe. Charming rooms, an extremely attentive and well-informed staff, a superb dining room - both marvelous food and low-key highly-professional service. Lawrences is a significant part of the Sintra experience.

We were in the Casa Cha room, which had a sunny sitting room. It was very nice and the bed and pillows were comfortable. The restaurant had WARM bread, and good food. When we left and were trying to meet the Uber driver, the managersent us walking in the wrong direction, whichshould have been obvious to him, in retrospect.

On a vacation my wife and I stayed at Lawrence’s Hotel at the beginning of August in 2019. Both the room and washroom were clean, spacious and clean. The room was on the street side but noise was never an issue. We ate in the restaurant one night and had two pasta dishes. The food was good and we enjoyed the atmosphere.
The hotel is on a one-way street that turned out to be difficult to get to, we were told that the direction of traffic on that street had changed recently so apparently Garmin had not gotten that info. Parking available at an extra cost but we found it worth the price as trying to find street parking would be difficult. The parking was not in the building but was very close, about 100 meters away. If we found ourselves in Sintra again we would definitely go back.
The hotel is close to the center of town about a 6-minute walk from the Sintra National Palace which was convenient.

I got to Lawrence’s after visiting 3, 5-star hotels in the region. Unfortunately Lawrence’s does not meet 5 stars requirements. The suite only had one a/c working, tv signal was very bad, breakfast was very basic and cold, no help to bring our luggage to the room or park the car and to top it off neighbors dogs were barking all night (not their fault though).
It is very apparent that it once was a nice hotel, but it wasn’t kept up to date, it had cheap renos and has underpaid staff.

My wife had worst Birthday ever in this hotel they gave us room which is faced on street we cannot open windows cant breathe noisy everywhere. Stuff is full of liers. They dont care about guests... Shame on this 5 star hotel

This review is for the restaurant, more specifically dinner. The atmosphere is very classy but cozy. The waiters are very friendly and got sure we were good several times. The food is great for the price, and the wines are not overpriced. We had a lagostim soup, mushroom risotto and viel ravioli. Definitely would return.

I was here about 8 or 9 years ago. It was a very nice stay. The rooms are all different and charming. We had one with a balcony and a large bathroom, which was very charming. Everything about the room was impeccable, service was great. We got a great deal on the price, too.
The breakfast was really good. Freshly pressed juices, fruits, bread, pastry etc. Coffee was obviously also freshly grinded and made, something we Alexis appreciated greatly.
We also had dinner at their restaurant. The waiter was amazing and they served me the best veal steak I've ever had.
Would definitely recommend to couples, though not to families.

Went to restaurant today! The view is FANTASTIC so be sure to ask for a table on the balcony. The staff there is very helpful and friendly. Food is great too. A bit pricy but worth it. Would come again if have a chance.

This is a small touch of elegance in the magical village of Sintra. It feels like a country house from Merry Old England rather than a Portuguese hotel, but all of this is part of the charm. It has been open for hundreds of years and all of this time is condensed into the present-day wonder of the hotel. The fabrics and furniture are strong, rich and full of heritage. I loved every minute of my stay.
The one thing that stands out from the Lawrence Hotel above all others is the view. This is a thing to spend time over, so don’t be in a rush when visiting the place. I stayed in the Jane Lawrence Room, which is a well-appointed double room. It feels opulent but without pretensions. There is old-world charm and modern amenities. Just what you would want from a hotel.
Think of the Lawrence Hotel when you are looking to stay in Sintra and you won’t be disappointed. It is a place of tranquillity and calm. The surroundings add to this feeling and make the hotel an even more fabulous place to spend time. This is the place to relax and find yourself away from all the business of city life in Lisbon. That’s just what I did – now it is your turn.

Levei um grupo de 30 pessoas. Foi previamente combinado menú com sopa, peixe ou carne, sobremesa, café e vinho tinto e branco. O serviço funcionou muito bem. O peixe e a carne estavam soberbos. Muito bem confeccionados, muito bem apresentados e muito saborosos. A sopa, um creme de tomate, poderia ainda estar melhor. A sobremesa, uma salada de frutas, incluiu fruta fresca, mas também pêssego de conserva e respectiva calda (lamentável). Uma pequena nódoa num pano de linho branco.

Chambre petite et un peu vieillotte, pas top pour un hôtel qui se dit 5 étoiles, et pour une nuit à 180€. En fait, vous payez surtout la proximité avec le centre-ville (5 min à pied). Pas de parking, dans une ville touristique où les places sont vite occupées. Le petit déjeuner est très bon, et est servi dans un cadre agréable.

Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. View is amazing. Rooms are cute. Very pleasant stay. Just on the edge of the city centre but within walking distance. Also has woods on the back so if waking up with nature sounds this is the place for you.

alles prima, einziger (und ggf. nicht gerade kleiner Nachteil) ist eine sehr eingeschränkte Parkmöglichkeit. Hotel hat keine freien Stellplätze, nur einige sehr wenige Plätze in einer Garage. Parken außerhalb ist aber in Sintra schwer - Städtchen ist sehr eng und vollgeparkt.

Местечко с претензией на шик. Но шик староват уже. А так кормят вкусно, хотя и дороже других. Вино хорошее присоветовали. Местное. Синтровское. Блюдо дня - свинина с картофельным пюре- очень вкусно. Видно, все дело в соусе было. Как в той знаменитой песне "... А я хочу сибаса...". Так вот сибас на гриле хорош, хотя на севере сибасы покрупнее будут. Ещё салат у них : октопус со всякими овощами. Очень понравился.

This place was probably the go to place in the 80's. That's the last time any updates have been done here. And the adults that frequented the place then are still the ones who frequent it now.
The manager was annoyed that we were there and wanted to dine. The staff was out of sight for 99% of the time..no clue what they were doing, but judging from the manager's attitude, they probably felt the same annoyance towards the customers.
If you like to be ignored, enjoy feeling like you're not good enough to dine there, love old and outdated decor, want to be somewhere where there's only a handful of other guests, then Lawrence's is the place for you. If you want amazing food, service, and experience, then go elsewhere. Hands down the worst place in Sintra.

Very central location, cute character filled hotel. Very well priced for location and comfort, beautiful building. Definitely not 5 star more 3 star, but prices are very reasonable, would stay again and recommend for a 1 night stay. Only negative,mattress very hard and pillows small and terrible and the outdoor terrace was not maintained, weeds and not kept.

Terrivel serviço no restaurante com um empregado muito júnior sem qualquer experiência; uma limitada oferta de pratos disponíveis; uma espera prolongada pela refeição (sendo os únicos clientes no restaurante) e mais tarde também pelos cafés. Pratos pouco inspirados que de todo não justificam o preço.
Perguntar se queríamos pão e manteiga é uma questão que não se justifica num restaurante desta (teórica) categoria. Apresentar a manteiga do covert nas embalagens plásticas mimosa que vemos habitualmente numa tasca, revela pouca atenção ao detalhe e um exemplo flagrante do muito que falta num local que devia privilegiar e mimar os seus comensais naquela que é a estalagem mais antiga da Peninsula Ibérica.
Chegámos cerca do meio dia e meia e durante quase uma hora fomos o único grupo no restaurante. Apenas quando outro grupo chegou é que a música ambiente foi ligada.
Expectativas completamente defraudadas e um local a não voltar infelizmente.

Characterful hotel with excellent staff and cozy public rooms (the wood-paneled reading room was my favorite). Our room had a king size bed (apparently not common in Portugal) and a balcony overlooking a deep valley with trees and birdsong. This hotel is in touch with Sintra - tranquil and oozing with charm.

Schönes Hotel in der Altstadt von Sintra: nur wenige Meter entfernt von Tourist Information, Restaurants, Fußgänger Zone, Bushaltestellen zur Besichtigung der Schlösser von Sintra. Nicht desto trotz ist es im Hotel sehr ruhig - aus unserem Zimmer hatten wir die Sicht auf Waldbewachsene steile Hänge und hörten nichts als einen Bach und die Vögel. Es ist ein altes verzweigtes Gebäude, mit viel schönem Holz. Zimmer sind nicht luxuriös, aber stilvoll eingerichtet. Parken kann schwierig sein: enge Gassen einer Altstadt bieten nicht viele Möglichkeiten. Man muss etwas suchen und bereit sein das Auto einige Straßen weg stehen zu lassen. Großartiges Restaurant - modern interpretierte portugiesische Küche und auch typische Gerichte in klassischer Atmosphäre mit gutem Service. Sehr gutes Frühstück. Wir haben hier die letzte Nacht unser Portugalrundreise verbracht, die wir mit zwei zweijährigen unternommen haben. Es war von der Begrüßung am Empfang bis zu den letzten Ratschlägen womit wir noch die letzten Stunden vor dem Flug sinnvoll füllen können ein entspannender und schöner Aufenthalt.

Es ist ein etwas älteres aber sehr geschmackvoll renoviertes Hotel mit sehr freundlichem Personal, welches einem auch super Tipps gibt was man in der nähe zu sehen hat.

Das Hotel ist sauber, das Personal freundlich und das Frühstück passt auch. Einziger Nachteil sind die fehlenden Parkplätze.

お部屋もレストランも雰囲気の良いホテルです。
朝食もゆったりとした気持ちで頂きました。
ポルトガルに２週間滞在しましたが お部屋にテッシュペーパーが備えられた唯一のホテルでした。 テラスからの眺めも素晴らしいです。
