Just a tip... Issue an ticket in the Funicular and you'll pay 3.80€ My advice issue a Viagem card which is also valid in the Metro system and ride the Funicular for 1.50€ The distance of the ride is quite short so be warned

Bellissima!

Short journey, the ride is over in a minute, but like the other funiculars it's covered with your daily travel pass, so well worth a ride.

A historical tram, but a very short ride. Can’t really compare to the one in the San Francisco, but well, it’s the closest alternative. On a nice day, you will have to queue to get on. It goes just up and down for a few minutes. Not so lovely views as it is in between buildings.

There's really no point to take the tram up the hill. Better yet, take a hike and see the tram from outside which is more picture worthy. plus you get to see the beautiful art on the street for free

Ana Carolina De O Costa

I take this every single day...and the drivers are very nice! The view is art! Good to try... short elevator but good to try.

02/15/2020
Anna Reading

Quite expensive for such a short journey. Tempting when it's really hot because it's a big climb, but the price is really similar to extortion. That's why i'm rating it 3 stars. Once you get up there, it becomes a 6 stars can't miss sightseeing place.

Imprescindible de subirse en él.

Worth taking a short ride on this funicular up to a beautiful look-out point. If you have an all-day metro pass, it’s free. Otherwise it’s a few euros per person.

Nice tram, very slow though. Made by GE, impressing! Good to take a ride for touristic experience. The ticket is a round trip with no validity period.

On October 24, 1885, it was officially opened to the public. First, it was powered by water. In 1886, it was transformed into a steam engine. Finally, it became the current electric engine in 1915. It was recognized as a national historic site in 2002 Opening Hours: Monday Thursday 7:00-23:55, Friday 7:00-0:25, Saturday 8:30-0:20, Sunday and holiday 9:00-23:55. Ticket: One way 3.5 euro, round trip 5 euro.

First, there is a certain confusion with the name, for the line featuring antiquated, partially wooden street cars, is sometimes referred to as Ascensor da Glória, other times as Elevador da Glória, and, finally, Glória Funicular in English. The line is quite old; it was inaugurated almost 135 years ago. It connects the Praça (Square) dos Restauradores at its downhill starting point and gets you to Rua de São Pedro de Alcântara at its terminal point, a few steps (literally) away from the Jardim (Garden) and Miradouro (observation point) São Pedro de Alcântara. We both walked up and down the "route", called Calçada da Glória about 3 times, and took the tram car once. Even though it was the only time we experienced the famous Lisbon tram (the rest was done by foot or very cheap local Uber), we are not sure taking funicular is in any way more advantageous or even justified. See for yourself, unless you have moving restrictions or limitations, the entire line is about 900 feet or less (270 meters) and the walk, depending on your age and/or physical endurance, takes anywhere from 5 to 8 minutes. Now, the web resources we consulted gave us the fare of 2.90 euro. That's incorrect and outdated. The current cost is 3.70 euro pp, which makes the 3-minutes' (or less) trip worth over 7 euro for 2 ppl. Of course, there are cheaper ways by buying special transportation card, but that wasn't our case, 5 days all walking or Uber. We are talking about the price of getting the tickets from the driver, of course. Also, the drivers don't seem to take into consideration the overall amount of seats, and our ride was nothing short of being as tightly packed as the Portuguese favorite food, a can of sardines, with some passengers having to stand in the absence of seats. Moreover, by climbing (or walking down) the Calçada da Glória, you will have a chance to observe lots of urban art, mostly on the right (in the uphill direction). That is because the area generally, and particularly its midpoint Largo da Oliveirinha (the tram doesn't stop there, by the way), is the site dedicated by the Lisbon municipality for the legal street art. So, skip the tram and keep walking.

Just for the experience or if you're physically impaired. A rip off when you consider what you pay for the couple of minutes the trip takes.

11/15/2019
Jeremy Barber

It's good fun for the novelty and to get up the hill. If you have a day pass for the metro you can use it here too. But really, it's nothing amazing. If you've been on a tram is just that. The ride lasts about 2-3 minutes for about 10-15 of waiting.

Historical tram. The ride is very short and not worth the ticket. Simply take pictures at the top when the tram is not moving and walk down by foot, so you will also notice quite a lot of bars around the tram's path

08/15/2019
Mariia Kosolapova

Picturesque views of cultural Lisbon. The elevator is essentially the original tram of 100 years and still going strong with 2 stops - one at top and second at the bottom. We didn't use the tram but got some amazing photos from the top. Definitely worth a visit.

Working since 1885 provides a relaxing way up the hill into one of the most beautiful sightseeing places in the city. Maximum 10m wait in case you miss it. Price is high but it includes 2 way ticket. Shame some one graffiti over the original yellow paint.
