A Praça do Comércio é uma enorme sala de visitas de Lisboa

É o cavalo dom José um monarca de Portugal que reinou numa das 4 dinastias que ou no meu país, todavia, se situa numa singela homenagem num título heroico bem num lugar de destaque em plena Praça do Comércio, o famoso Terreiro Paço bem frontal ao maior rio ibericode dois Tejo,entre Portugal e Espanha muito visitado por imensos turistas de todas as partes do mundo. Deixo-vos o meu aval,valeca pena vir cá bem falado pelos criticos.

In the centre of Praca do Comercio in Lisbon is an equestrian statue to King Jose I which was sculpted by Portuguese Machado de Castro in 1775. Here you see King Jose I in military attire. His horse is stomping on snakes which can be seen under the horse. The statue stands upon a oval plinth which includes allegorical figures on both sides. There is a royal emblem on the front of the plinth as well as a bronze portrait relief of King Jose I. This is an attractive statue that is worth seeing if you enjoy history and viewing monuments of national figures during your travels. Note, it is also worth taking a few minutes to view is the Arch da Rua Augusta at the north side of the plaza.

The central piece of the otherwise gigantic and totally empty square, is the the horse statue of José I de Portugal (1714-1777), the king of Portugal whose reign spanned almost three decades, from 1750 to 1777, on whose watch the devastating 1755 earthquake happened and whose efforts (along with his most trusted minister Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, Marquis of Pombal) initiated the massive rebuilding of the city. The King himself and his family have miraculously survived the terrible earthquake; they were spending the public holiday (the earthquake and the following tsunami took place on November 1st, All Saints' Day) outside of the city; however, till his last days José I de Portugal couldn't stand a thought of sleeping in a hard roof structure and always stayed in tents, fearing for a possible structural collapse. Note an elephant on the eastern side of the pedestal. Elephants served as a symbol of the great overseas discoveries of the Portuguese empire, with some of them remaining forever in history (one, Hanno, was gifted in 1514 to Pope Leo X, and the other, Suleiman, was sent to the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II, 37 years later). The latter was featured as a "hero" of the 2008 book The Elephant Journey, by the greatest Portuguese modern writer José Saramago, the winner of the Nobel Prize in literature. A stylized elephant footprint can be seen today by José Saramago's foundation, less than 5 minutes' walk from Praça do Comércio.

Plaza céntrica de Lisboa. Abre la ciudad al mar. Paisajes maravillosos del estuario del río Tajo, con el puente del 25 de diciembre al fondo. En esta plaza puedes encontrar una mezcla étnica espectacular, reflejando una muestra del Portugal imperial.

Ótima localização, espaço, próximo ao Rio Tejo, muito espaço pois fica na Praça do Comércio. Local ótimo para passear.

Magnifique statue en plein cœur de la Praça do Commercio. Elle est magnifiquement entourée par des monuments fort bien conserver et à l'architecture d’Époque. A visiter.
