Better "old town feel" than Albuferia old town, (which is very touristy).
Ample free parking nearby, but once in the carpark, ignore any "locals" wandering around who try to tell you where to park and then ask for money to watch your car.
Several nice restaurants within the old town area and pleasant to wander through....maybe good for a stop off before catching flight back home.

The walled town was nice and there was some attractive buildings however there wasn't much to see. If there was guided tours I'm sure it would be more interesting however I found it lacking in depth.

Fairly complete set of old town walls. Nice to wander the streets and stop off at quaint bars and restaurants. Some of the buildings are falling down but they are making some effort to restore them. Great views of the river and restaurants from the bar at the top of the walls. Also a tower to climb and small museums.

Great experience. Visited early morning on a cloudy day so was almost empty. Must visit for a laid back and enchanting experience.

É o centro histórico de Faro. Ponto turístico bastante conhecido. Estive lá pela última vez na quinta feira passada, numa tradição universitária conhecida como "o traçar da capa".

Needs more information boards perhaps a free street map with information on what s worth seeing if you are trying to attract more tourist some of the public buildings like museums and churches should be open on Sunday .we happened to see the tourist train going past no idea where it started from or where it went everything needs to be coordinated perhaps a proper website with a lot more information on.
Also a lot of people wants to see people living there and when are all the derlect properties be reused possible as a hostel for the young who could also help bring life back to the old town.

Petit restaurant bien placé . Serveur sympa. Nous avons pris la planche old taverne à 25€ pour 2. Charcuterie de moyenne qualité, fromage bon. Légèrement élevé pour la qualité des produits. Cadre sympathique proche de la cathédrale et de la Villa Atentro.

In der Altstadt von Faro gibt es nichts wirklich spezielles zu sehen.. das Highlight der Stadt liegt eher in dem Nationalpark, welchen ich nur empfehlen kann. Was ich trotzdem schön fand, waren die zahlreichen Graffitis, die der Stadt einen besonderen Flair gaben!

Faro ist sehenswert wer keine riesen touriansammlungen mag. Es ist ruhig und entspannt. Wir waren ganze 12 tage im Faro. Von dort aus sind wir an die verschiedenen Strände gefahren. Auch der Strand von Faro ist riesig. Mit sehr günstigen Cocktails und leckerem ebenso bezahlbaren essen ist es echt super. Gerne mal wieder. Vorallem es hat auch eigenen Flughafen für eine Kleinstadt super.

Centro storico di Faro, ben tenuto e ricco di interessanti monumenti, con al centro la bella cattedrale, con l'annesso museo. Da visitare anche il bel museo archeologico, che conserva numerosi reperti di epoca romana. Il luogo è anche ricco di ottimi ristoranti e bar, dove è possibile passare la serata, gustando buone pietanze portoghesi o sorseggiando una bibita o un caffè, ammirando tramonti da favola.

Abseits des Flughafens erwartet euch eine malerische kleine Stadt, die nicht nur kulinarisch besonderes bietet. Abseits der touristischen Strecke könnt ihr hier kleine, aber feine Cafes und Restaurants entdecken. Die Gelassenheit und Gastfreundschaft der Menschen hier ist unbeschreiblich und lässt für die Dauer des Besuches vergessen, dass es Städte wie Chemnitz gibt......

Maravilhoso, ali começou a cidade de Faro que hoje é capital da região do Algarve, quem não conhece e gosta de história, está num bom lugar para saber um pouco da história da região de Portugal, com museus, a muralha do castelo inda se encontra de pé, vários restaurantes e bares se encontram fixados dentro dele. Ótimo também para conhecer a Catedral da Sé.

Nice narrow streets but mainstream-tourist-oriented restaurants, cafés and shops really spoil atmosphere of the town. Better skip old town altogether and go straight to the beaches.

Nice and quiet place: came here with friends for an afternoon and we enjoyed walking around the streets. Unfortunately we had some troubles finding some place to set and relax, but the antiques shops and the nice tiled walls were worth the visit.

Nice to walk around, not much to see or activities and was easy to cover in an hour of walking slowly and not stopping. Some nice restaurants but again nothing too special
A few shops but nothing special and just general shops that are found everywhere. I recommend going to somewhere like Lagos or Alvor instead, which has more options for tourists, and better atmosphere to see things or just relax.
In this summer time Faro does put on big screens in the centre for events, in our case the football World Cup game which brings a bit more entertainment and energy to the place.

A very picturesque part of town, very peaceful and I imagine at night it would be amazing for a walk. Would definitely recommend checking it out, although during the day it can be a bit difficult because of the sun and heat.

A Cidade Velha localiza-se no concelho da Ribeira Grande de Santiago, a 15 quilómetros a oeste da praia, na costa de cabo Verde. Constitui-se na primeira cidade construída pelos europeus nos trópicos e na primeira capital do arquipélago de cabo Verde. Foi primitivamente denominada como Ribeira Grande, vindo a mudar de nome para evitar ambiguidade com a povoação homónima, na Ilha de Santo Antão. A 10 de junho de 2009 foi classificada como uma das sete maravilhas de origem portuguesa no mundo. Devido à sua história manifestada por um valioso património a 26 de julho do mesmo ano foi classificada pela UNESCO como Património Mundial da Humanidade.

Der historische Kern Faros. Sehenswert, wird saniert, interessant.
Überhaupt, Faro ist interessant, auch ausserhalb der Altstadt. Dort gibt es viel zu entdecken.

It's, indeed, a very pleasant quiet and well-maintained place; carefully and competently restored.
But if you, like those tourists we saw there, especially?! :) travelled from Lisbon.... well, it's rather a very dubious decision; and their faces testified that...
It's reasonable to be roamed about if you have a specially designated day for the whole Faro while realizing your voyage around Portugal by a rented car and having this place as a reference point on your route (where you have your rest day), otherwise you'll simply waste your time.
It could recount you something interesting if you studied the history of the peninsula and Reconquista was of your research interests.
A collective excursion seems to be just a money sacking from poor tourists :(.
Overall, the territory is very clean despite the fact that there are enough abandoned premises; toooo excessive number of different cafes over this modest area and very nice orange trees everywhere :).

Very lovely and interesting old city with a Roman history dating back to @ 2nd century BC. The town has seen much conflict with troubles from the Roman era through the Moorish occupation and the later Spanish conflicts. Lots of history and many different architectural influences from over 2000 years of change. Well worth a visit

A Vintage version of Faro - nicely preserved with it's cobbled streets and neat white-washed buildings reminiscing of the Colonial hey-days of the Portuguese Empire. Warrants a visit if visiting the nearby Ria Formosa National Park.

Área aconchegante. Tomar um café nas inúmeras cafeterias numa manhã fria, não tem preço. Local para compras com um mix de lojas que permite atender do simples ao sofisticado. Aliado a isso temos inúmeras construções com idade muito superior aos meus tataravós. Vale mesmo conhecer.

Dating from the moorish occupation, the old town in bounded by old city walls and paved in ancient cobble stones. While renovation work is ongoing and there is always some older dilapidated building being worked on, there are also many restaurants and bars Where you can escape the heat.

My fisrst time in porchagel faro i loved it and the people who live there and lots of English and irish live there and go there for holidays it's history old fashioned small buildings shops and restaurants hostels b & B hotels nice peace full and good beeches and sea lots of boat trips and places to visit, I'll be back and I reckomend it to all paul p England

Faro Old Town is a delight, a must see. A walled city within a city. Full to the brim with history. Museums, churches many ancient buildings cobbled streets a joy. Many restaurants to take refreshment in. Honestly don't miss this local gem.
